It looks like a early 911 porsche front end with a datsun 240z rearend.

The connection to Shelby is a bit of a reach. Sounds to me
like the guy call it what it is. Even more so if they are gaining in value being rare.

Yup...very real and that's an amazing price if it's in any kind of shape. They look better in person...nice interior.

Interesting to read about - I never heard of it. Pictures on wikipedia make it look a bit more attractive, but it's still strange looking.
