Dick Smith's 198 mph Roadster Fact or Fiction?

I've always wondered about the credibility of this claim. What's the real deal? If that claim is in fact accurate, approx. how much HP was at the rear wheels. No disrespect is intended here and I hope responders will keep this in mind.

Hi Guys,
I had'nt realized this topic had been beaten to death. I'm fairly new to this forum. I've seen the car several times and I'm still amazed by it. I've been around performance cars for yrs, and somehow I find the mph amazing considering that the body probably has a cd of 0.45. Once again I'm curious as to what the hp of the motor was at that time. I'm not trying to start a war but it was the first historically significant Cobra I had seen and really gave me the chills imagining myself as a driver or passenger at 198mph .
