Engine Placement
Hi to all,
How does one know where the engine is to be placed? What is the distance from say the front centerline to the front of the engine or perhaps the front of the mount? I have a Hunters Kit Car and I just don't see how far forward or to the rear the engine should rest on the frame. The mount are not installed so I have to figure out where to secure them. Thanks, |
This is a Hurricane kit, NOT Hunter. Every kit has their own unique mount location.

Thanks, Your picture gives me a good starting point.

It depends a lot on what kit you have. FFR's mount the engine more to the rear while others mount it more forward.

My mistake. I quickly read that as Hurricane, not Hunter. My picture is a Hurricane kit and Roscoe is 100% correct. You need to find a representative of the Hunter kit to determine the location. I'll edit my post above.
Here's Hunter's contact info: Hunter Kit Cars 14121 SE 155th ST. Weirsdale, Fl 32195 Ask for Randy: Office # (352)425-6238 |
Thanks for the info. I'll contact Hunters.

Make sure to ask them about the height. My kit set the big block too low in the chassis, had to redrill the frame.Have fun,the wait is well worth it.

Thanks md I'll do that and you're right it will be worth the wait.
Thanks again to all George |
Hunter engine placement
I got the exhaust from the person that Randy was using at the time that he built my car. I set engine in frame along with body on car and then put headers on and that pretty much dictates where engine goes. I'm running FE Ford. Are you running headers and sidepipes or undercar exhaust. Not much ground clearance on my car for undercar exhaust.
|
When setting up my kit,the body was installed and positioned where it had to be,then the engine was postioned to give the best clearance firewall and radiator clearance. My car running a 460ci had to make a little door in footwell to change rear spark plug.A very small price to pay,for the thrill ride the car turned out to be.

After I spoke to Randy, I better understood the placement of the engine. I wanted to see what the exhaust would look like installed. After that we put the body on.....You're right the exhaust definitely decided where the engine would sit. Thanks and have a Merry Christmas.
