Cost of shipping a Cobra from NY to Houston?
can anyone give me a rough idea of the approximate cost to ship a Cobra from the New York City area (Long Island) to the Houston area (The Woodlands)? Thanks.

I can tell you that the quoted cost to ship my ERA from their shop in CT to Arkansas is $1438 from Intercitylines. That included an additional fee of about $100 because it is a kit and inoperable. I would guess that's not too far off of what it would be down to Houston.

About 2 years ago I was quoted $1600. If you are looking for a sweet spf, silver with black stripes, roush 427 with 3500 miles in clear lake let me know. Not mine but a neighbors. Needless to say I would need a small finders fee.
Current price is $49,900

I've used FedEx Passport a couple of times -- and each time went very well. They are not the cheapest guys around. They give you an on-line quote though, http://dbfedex.cargotel.com/open/fedexquote/ and it looks to be $1,500 (assuming the car is operational). That tells me that some of the other transport guys that you see on this forum will probably do it for a grand, or a bit more.

No, unfortunately I'm getting divorced and it looks like The Woodlands will be my landing zone. I'm bringing the Contemporary down there with me.

I paid about $1500 for NY to CA transport. Several sources warned me off cheaper transport options - insurance, reliability, other problems. My Cobra arrived in a closed transport with a very competent operator and was vinyl-wrapped end to end. He unloaded it, unwrapped and dusted it, walked me around it and pointed out about six virtually invisible rock chips, a hairline nick in one wheel, etc. that had been recorded at loading. Reliable Transport; recommended.

The FedEx guy was kind of funny. He was a dead-ringer for Jerry Garcia and had a dog up in the cab of the big rig. He put on white cotton gloves and put plastic or paper over the seat and steering wheel. Then he drove it on the magic ramp, got out with a wireless remote control, pushed a button and *poof* it was gone in to the bowels of the truck all by itself -- it had some sort of carousel in there that moved cars around. He called me from the road a few times to give me his travel progress, etc.

I used FedEx as well from Michigan to Houston, $1400. No issues, awesome equipment. Are you moving to Houston?

Moving to The Woodlands, most likely - does that count as Houston?

Thanks, guys. The car is far from finished and I need to complete that before I haul it down there. I'd rather finish it in Texas but I can't imagine that anyone will haul parts down. The body isn't even on it, although I could get that done in a night by bribing some local guys with beer and pizza. I just had no idea what it cost. Looks like a finished car shipped for $1500 or so is a good ballpark figure. I'm still talking back and forth with Nick and maybe have him finish it for me. We'll see. Thanks!

I have used Thomas C Sunday twice with no issues and they always seem to come in a little less than fedex and intercity.

My guess ; 1200-1400 , make sure to confirm it is an enclosed / covered transport van.
you would be disappointed otherwise.

Being what would be considered a rag-top. They will want to put you on top. Also because of the limited ground clearance (4" or less) they will want to use a lift gate trailer. Bottom line, premium haul. These are things you may want to keep in mind for a safe transport. Also if you deliver your car to their lot and pick up at their lot. You will save some. Lift gate trailers are generally enclosed.
I guess you may be able to tell I have recently researched this. App. $1,500.00 sounds about right.

Avoid Robert "Bob" Beverley!
He has stolen $5650.00 from me on a transport deal. I would not trust him with a tricycle. Currently having to involve the judicial system in efforts to get back my money.
Bob Beverly Transport - DO NOT USE!
I would recommend
Collin Stewart Transport
@

They are very professional, easy to deal with, great CS and on time.
$1700 AZ to NH

Intercity gives on line quotes w/ in 24 hrs. of request. I have used them w/ no problems. Horseless Carriage I thought was expensive for what I consider a short trip. Also try Gary Almond @ Almond Transport. One of my other auto sites swear by him. Many of my friends have also used Plycon the I think may be HQ'ed in the Northeast. Hope this helps
