Which one? That it was quiet, comfortable or practical?!? :D

Gunner 01-12-2010 06:23 PM

"500 hp" :D

SKINNEDR 01-12-2010 06:28 PM

351 Windsor with a Chart that reflect that the HP at 5200 RPM was 467 HP....
Hard to believe that.
Not sure who lied, the FE manufaturer of the car or the salesman....
Dex....

Mine told me it was professionally built. He forgot to mention he was an professional idiot. I had to completely rebuild it.

Luckily, the only "white lie", was that it took about 4 weeks longer for my car to arrive than when I was quoted (no biggie). That was in 2006, so it probably wouldn't be a problem today.

If you're fortunate enough to find CC before you make your purchase, you shouldn't have too many stories.

The threads that I cringe at start out with "I bought this Cobra on a whim and I really don't know what I have."

BTW - The installer that I worked with (Full Throttle in Reno) quoted a flat rate install. No surprises and delivered on time.

badrich 01-12-2010 07:25 PM

When I purchased the car back in 2002, it was supposed to be powered by a 428FE. It was actually a 390 bored out to 428. Relied on an "expert" to verify the basics. I've learned a little since then. :( Rich

Your car will be done in 6 months:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::CRY:

I am forever amazed at the things my customers tell me that they were told. Most of them are mislead to what it will really take to build there kit and what it will cost, its a shame. Some of it is just comical at times.

"They are all virgins and love you long time."

Excaliber 01-12-2010 09:12 PM

Uh, well, this "friend" of mine had an Excalibur for sale and told the guy that bought it it was a totally safe "investment" that was guarenteed to increase in value as the years went by.

Which, may still be true, in somebodys lifetime, probably not my "friends", but.... :)

I had a motorcycle/moped sales and repair shop for a couple of years. My son worked for me one summer, when sales were especially brisk. He concluded two things at the end of summer. 1. That I could sell snow cones to Eskimo's. 2. He would NEVER buy anything from me. :) :)

PANAVIA 01-12-2010 09:19 PM

"all the installation parts are there"....

in the cars we have assembled since, I have checked out the factory fresh install kits. -- ---yup, my first car got short-sheeted.

Flywheel my friend, flywheel... BTW a 351 Windsor is not an FE. Not sure what you are implying here but that type of power from that engine on the engine dyno, let me type that again engine dyno is not uncommon.

What lies? They just tell you what you want to hear. Details can be worked out after the sale.

Bernica 01-12-2010 10:54 PM

A friend of mine who was shopping for a Cobra got this from a guy:

"See that Lucas turn signal flasher? They only put those on real Cobras, that's how you can tell. They only used Lucas back then".......

He doesn't go looking anymore without having me along.

The 6 months of waiting for the car will go fast

The Silver mustache guy saying the 6 month wait will go fast. This was in 1996. ERA lets you think about buying the car for this long. After that, Had my number and 60 days latter driving with a body and frame on a Uhaul trailer. Since then the car has been upgraded with wider tires (17") power steering, rollcage without cutting the body, and a paint job that has held up well with out any cracks. Only issue I have ever had beside the waiting time is when I go to ERA, I am given a DIET COKE.:CRY::( I hate this stuff, what happened to straight coke??;):):D:LOL::LOL::LOL: Rick L.

So very true in most cases

greg schroeder 01-13-2010 07:15 AM

The most common misrepresentation seems to be assumed performance expectations based on advertised engine HP combined with what somebody else has achieved with a diffrent car.

eddytheb 01-13-2010 07:22 AM

I see a lot of paint prep BS Guys talk there fiberglass up so much then when it comes time to do body work and paint the I was told's start.
