I think there's an entire subculture of people who indulge their passion for unusual cars etc. by trading one for another on a frequent basis. You're probably considered one of them since no one normal would have a Cobra. :)
Not a Cobra and not quite the same thing, but I was once driving a very sweet restored Mustang through a sidewalk crowd, and a woman who looked like she'd just stepped out of something like Maxim said, "Oh, wow, I'd love a ride!" To which I heard myself saying, somewhat to my own horror, "Wow, I was thinking the same thing!" (It's probably best that I don't remember how it came out, as I was concentrating on not getting people-goo all over the Mustang...) |
I have a guy from a local car club offer me his mint 57' Chevy Bel Air with a Big Block and 2 stage nitrous. The first day I met him, he wondered away from his Chevy friends like a 6 year old with a guilty conscious, looking around to make sure no one was watching as he came up to me and said "I really have been battling Fords all my life, I have grown to hate them, but in your case I will make an excpetion..." he dangles the keys, points to his car and says "ready to trade?" We both start laughing, and after the laughing stops he says "so, you ready?! I am serious."
Every now and then we see eachother and he shouts, "Just got the engine rebuilt, are you ready yet?!". It's a beautiful car, and is one of those cars that accidently chirps the tires when put into reverse, or driving at any speed, in any gear. You can take the car from park into reverse, and it chrips the tires. F'n rediculous. Great guy. |

I have to pass on trading on your current FFR. It's got an automatic and I'd prefer a different color. You turned out to be a wise man when you declined to the trade of my wife's 91 Nissan Sentra with 192K miles. Two weeks after I offered it to you, I sort of converted the car to have open exhaust, but then traded it to a fine recycler of autos for something like $50. However I think I have another car to trade now. I'm pretty sure it is a 95 Honda Civic with 179K miles, but I have not seen it since sometime in December when I brought it back to the used car dealer within the 30 day warranty for a blown head gasket. You never know, by the time I get my Civic back you might have something else I might be more interested in trading for. :JEKYLHYDE |
Maybe you're trolling in the wrong waters?

...a 2009 Corvette ZR1 + $50K cash to boot (In my mind though)

I got offered an unfinished CMC Cobra and 5K cash in trade for the car just a little while ago. Is it me, or do people just not read the not so fine, fine print these days.

Had a guy ask for a ride. Told him if he was female, blonde, good looking and had offered a BJ we would have a deal. He went to his car and grabbed his sister and asked if she would do.
Damn, I hate being married at times.:o:D |
I'll take a different approach on this. I actually took a trade a couple times. Once took a Kirkham FIA on trade for my GTD GT40 even up. I also traded a Harley and cash for a Cobra once. Last year I decided I wanted to get back into Cobras and put my 2007 Shelby GT500 (black/red stripes) up for sale. Mkt real soft on thoses so I approached a few guys with Cobras on trading my car plus cash. Actually came close a few times, once on a real nice ERA, once on a CSX4000 but had engine I really didn't want and the last one on another CSX4000. I thought this last CSX was going to go through as a Ford dealer was marketing it for a close friend and it was on Ebay and ended up going above the reserve so I lost that deal. One thing to consider, depending on your state, is sales tax. In Texas on used vehicles, you only pay sales tax on the cash difference between the two cars assuming you're the buyer trading for something more expensive. This might be the reason many of you get trade offers as if you are saving paying sales tax you are willing to take a bit less on trading up. Good news for me is I recently sold my Shelby GT500 out right and now can choose what I want which was ordering a new Hurricane.......
