Thanks for the link ... Looks like a lot of them were damaged very severely, especially the cars that looked like they were whacked with those large poles ... yikes!

Very nice collection of automobiles, sad to see them so banged up.

I'd have to guess from looking at the pics that the poles were aluminum, or some other lighter than steel material. If those poles were steel, the damage would have been far greater. The fact that the cars held up the poles instead of being crushed flat would indicate to me that the poles are a lot lighter than they could have been. Possibly, the wind wouldn't have taken down more substantial poles, I don't know, but the damage would have been far more extreme if they were heavier. While it looks pretty nasty, and I wouldn't want to be any one of those owners, it looked like it could have been far worse if those poles had fallen in different directions. Fortunately it looks like the majority fell across lines of cars instead of along the line,taking probably 6-10 cars with one pole.

I noticed a few pics where it looked like the impact revealed a bit of Bondo/filler.

Probably going to be a fair number cars (i.e. tribute cars, future classics, etc.) that will be totaled.

It was posted earlier the estimated damage per vehicle was $5,000.

Uh huh, in their dreams maybe, looks more like a nightmare shaping up for the insurance well above 5K per car!

This will probably be a blip on the screen for most of the insurance companies involved...especially because they'll just raise everyone's rates by $50 to pay for Mother Nature's fury.

Hagerty took a big hit with Katrina, but think how many policies they write.

I would agree. A Ford GT, a couple Superbirds, the Pantera, the Shelby Mustang, Lamborghini Diablo, Ferrari Testarossa, etc. (to name a few).

Looks like that was a great time to be a plastic car. The Vettes all looked like they made it through like a Saturn. Broken windsheilds but no major body damage. Everything else looked really banged up. Some cars took a beating at the worst place to try to repair - on an A pillar for example. And a couple cars looked like they got hit with a shotgun, just pock marks everywhere. Feel really bad for those owners. You put so much into a car and to see it destroyed in a heartbeat. Tough losses for all.

Wow thats gonna cost a small fortune to fix. Feel lucky no one was hurt, we had the Dallas Cowboys practice tent collapse in a storm couple years ago and it left one of the coaching staff paralyzed.

And I thought the biggest damage was to the selling prices over at the BJ, but this looks even worse than that.

Looking at the photo slides on post 47 just made me sick. The damage from a pole was very easy to understand but there were so many holes and points of impact. Some of the cars had multiple impacts from a mother nature shotgun. Sad, just really sad and the grief has got to be just beginning.

With time and money anything can be repaired but not all cars qualify for the resurrection of a VIN or CSX number at any cost. With even the worlds best repair you still have a car with a different 1/4 panel or whatever. How would you ever know the true impact on sales price or future value. I guess the lucky ones just sold their baby to the adjuster.

The tent contractor's insurance will get hit from all sides on this. You would think that he'd have good coverage due to the nature of what the tents were being used for. If not, then he's probably not returning calls and halfway to Argentina by now....

Lawsuits will fly for many years.

They will sue everyone, including the engineer that approved the installation. (Most permits require engineer certification for temporary structures)

It will be ugly.

The structures should all be permanent.

They can build a "Cover-All" permanent tent type structure for a bargain with a concrete grade beam and piles.

At the Fall AACA Hershey meet, the flea market is held on the Hershey Chocolate paved parking lots, cannot drive stakes securing the tent ropes into the pavement, wonder if the same restrictions applied.
