Thanks Guys , thats three different prices for one car now http://www.autabuy.com/Vehicles/Deta...BY&Model=COBRA depending where you look . I was thinking low balling them to Black mamba , good call. Thats huge news Sundude , dealers hate sitting on stuff that long . I saw one in arizona better shape but webers throught the hood for $27k had the mg front end so maybe old enough to . You guys would be impressed , I knew it was a Unique because of the gas tank in the trunk from the pics .

I like the one in Az., seems like a great build with all the really quality stuff on it. Plus being in Arizona it will have less possibility of rust out in any areas. OK, the stack through the hood is kinda wacky in my eyes but this is getting back to the negotiation thing, tell the dealer you like it but need to change some things and are looking at popping another $5K at least to replace the stacks with a Holley 750 or whatever, new scoop and paint + various odds and ends and toss 'em a solid offer of $20K including shipping - if it checks out. They'll probably jump. But contact someone in the area to give it a good check up.

This had been for sale for at least a year. I had a look at it and it's in very poor condition. I would say its a good starting point if you intend on a total rebuild( and you pay less than 20k).

Well, that answers that and I guess you don't have to have anybody look at it after all. Oh, it was also kinda strange that the builder did all kinds of performance stuff but then never installed a roll bar.

I was waiting to hear what racco thought , how rough? Won't be able to go till spring , weather permitting . If I borrow a dealer plate you think I can legally drive it over the border , after importing it obviously . Hey did you see the new FFR , thats starting to look good , sorta want something already built though . Did you see many nice UM's in the mid 20's .

No I didn't see many UM Cobras in the mid-20s. The one in question was priced in the 30s, but look quite a while to sell so the seller took much less than he'd hoped for it.

I would say that the UM Cobras I saw for sale over the years have been, on average, priced lower than a comparably equipped ERA or SPF. Could represent a good deal for you, if your budget can't stretch to the ERA/SPF level. UM seems to make a really nice car and I've read nothing but great comments about the Weaver family.

But to be honest, you get what you pay for. The UM in MN might represent a good price, but clearly it's a fixer upper. If you've got the time and interest to tinker with it, it could be a cheap way to get started. If you don't, look elsewhere.

racco 01-31-2010 09:14 AM

this 91 cobra is in poor condition by my standards. I don't know what you think a good car is? You may drive an 86 cutlass and think it's a great car.
By my standards (which are high) this car was assembled from a gunk yard engine and the assembly was back yard at best (not to say that all back yard guys are bad). Its up to you, I can only give my opinion. I bought a ccx with a proper 427 so, beacuse it was one of the "best" and when it arrived I found things that were not up to my standard. I have since started righting the wrongs and I should have a ccx that will make me proud.
I was at the british car show this year and I saw ten cobras, I thought the ccx was "bad". After looking at these wrecks I have found a greater respect for the ccx.
