Ouch, I hope the guy was alright
I saw this SPF on Fleabay, an absolute heartbreaking wreck, hope the guy was OK. I guess there may be parts there but I'm questioning whether someone would want anything that carries a history of being related to this car.

I was wondering the same thing. I notice it has 5 lugs (might just be sitting there), but I don't know when they started using only spinners. The car is so beat up it's hard from those pictures for me to tell. Maybe sombody with better knowledge about the earlier SPF's can chime in.
Edit: Actually after looking at the pictures enlarged I think it is.

Bolt on wheels sure caught my attention, didn't know that SPF used bolt on with any of their early or late cars.

Not just instate, other states likely have the same law. Hawaii does. After rebuilding a "totaled" Dodge in Hawaii I had a heckuva time getting a licensed rebuilder to even look at the car, let alone certify/inspect it. Those state qualified inspectors typically work for a body shop for in house stuff only. If they didn't do the work they won't certify the work. Could be a serious problem when it comes registration time. |

I think this is a waste of time without the drive train and wheels. Looks like they stripped the car and left the stuff they can't sell by piece.

It does have a Superformance tag in it, superformance K1399AM1661... is that an old #?

I think that may be a state issued number. The only number assigned to my car by Superformance is SP01715.

It is an SPF (gas tank shape, location of brake booster and some other queues). Obviously bought for salvage at an auction and the buyer lifted the drivetrain and what was left of the knock-off wheels, then bolted on whatever he had lying around and now trying to sell the heap for an enterprising individual. If that car was local I would have already cherry picked it for various do-dads and convinced the guy that everything else was ready for the crusher.

I did a quick search on the SCOF forum and apparently some of the very early cars did have bolt on wheels. I'm not sure how to decode the VIN plate to tell what chassis number it is...but it really doesn't matter.
BTW - That VIN sequence jibes with the earlier chassis numbers. Best that I can tell, it's chassis 61 or maybe 661.

The ad also says "Body was removed to see chassis condition." %/ The guy also answers a question indicating that you can buy a body from SPF. Not sure if that's true, but I doubt it.

Man it must have been tough getting that body off the chassis. From what I've heard SPF really glues, rivets, screws, bolts or whatever that body/chassis together.
This car is toast, we got nothing here, may not even be worth the shipping costs incurred to bring it home if they GAVE it to you!

PS That is a SPF gas tank, no question. I just replaced mine so I know. The steering column is SPF, etc... I saw the wheels, but the gas tank gives it away for me. |

You can definitely buy a body. Lance at Hillbank had one in his parts warehouse a couple years ago. |
Yes, it is indeed a Superformance. The driver walked away pretty-much unharmed. I believe it was a jeep that failed to stop and climbed up the rear of the car while it was stopped. The jeep actually impaled itself on the rollbar just behind the drivers head. The one thing that REALLY caught my attention was that the fuel filler connection and hose was ripped clean off the fuel tank exposing the full load of fuel in the tank. (Fuel tank stayed in place) There were also a fuel pump(s), filters, and I think an accumulator in the trunk along with hoses that were also well shreaded. Still thinking about how to prevent that hose from disconnecting from the SPF fuel tank after an accident like this or anyone elses replica for that matter. Headlight buckets, front quick jacks were toast...the "fantastic" engine and trans were pulled by owner for use in a replacement car. hood look ok as did interior as I remember. BTW: If you remove the Trigo/WAW wheels and their center hubs from a Superformance you get 5 lugs. Also, the Mfr badging and chassis # as shown on the badge is correct for this series car. I saw the car before it was picked up by the insurance company...seriously scarey...

FWIW, this auction has exactly one day to go and top bid is $2,550 (and has surpassed any reserve). This heap is going home to someone! I just can't see parting this out for anywhere near that much money, so whomever is interested must think they can get it back on the road.

Actually, the body was pretty much stripped since I last saw it. The interior was perfect after the accident. Gauges, wheels were all in place. I have other photos to compare it too. So this guy is just unloading his scrap on some unsuspecting soul after everything of value has been removed. Only one temp gauge in the dash and it's probably broken. (I enhanced the photos) We'll see if parts start showing up in a few weeks on eBay...Hope it don't bust someone’s dream thinking they can repair it...
