Been here for 10 yrs & I don't get it either. Some places up north of Santa Barbara are nice but still expensive.

Back to the subject of SB100

I got a call today from a friend that's connected to the Hot Rod community in Northern California. He mentioned that there's a piece of legislation that's getting some traction again that would increase the number of SB100 sequence numbers. He said he would send me some details regarding a letter writing campaign that the Assemblyman is trying to get off of the ground.

Well... to each his own.

That's why we have 50 states and not one. There is something for everyone.

I'm a transplant from the Midwest. I wouldn't go back for anything.

Our company has employees across the globe. During the dot-com boom, we had an initiative to bring talent from all over the world to North America to help us with projects. They went to eastern Canada, Texas, North Carolina, and California. The intention was to stay a couple of years and go home...and go home they did after 2 years, except the ones that came to California. They did everything they could to stay as long as they possibly could. Some became Americans, some had to go home after 7 years, but with deep regrets that they had to leave. They come back every year to visit.

...and now back to SB100.

Yeah, gimme a state flat as a pancake with 100% humidity on a good day (200% during hurricanes) and infested with drug runners, retirees and alligators. Any time.

Back to SB100...

There has been a piece of legislation floating around for a year or so about increasing the number of SB-100 numbers but it never seems to get very far. Our former Senator from here who wrote SB-100 supports it but he can't get much done as he is out of office and the tree huggers are screaming bloody murder about increasing the number of those atmosphere ruining gross polluters. While they drive 30K miles per year in their SUVs to protest everything.

I lived in Ohio for 16 years, North Carolina for 8 years, and Florida for over 15 years... most of my immediate family is in FL. They don't like Cali... and I don't like FL. I have NO desire to go back. I'll take Cali ANY day. Why?... it's difficult to explain... there are a lot of reasons. You either feel it, or you don't. To each his own...

Main points to focus on are...

1. These cars are limited use, and therefore do not significantly affect air quality.
2. The 500 vehicle limit is too low.
3. The State will benefit from the fees collected.

If passed, owners of cars caught up in the amnesty law, AB-619, would be able to re register under this law. A great deal of effort has been made to get this going. Please pass this information on, with enough support, we can make a difference.

I am writing you this letter in support of bill AB-1740. Californians need a fair and straightforward way to legally register specialty vehicles. In the past, California’s system for registering these vehicles has been confusing and misleading, and the current SB-100 is too restrictive with its 500 vehicle limit. This has resulted in frustration for the hobbyist, improper registrations, and lost revenue for the State. These vehicles only make up a small fraction of the total number of vehicles in the State, and are primarily used for car shows and special events. The majority of these vehicles are only driven once or twice a month, so their impact on emissions is insignificant.

Please use every means to bring AB-1740 into law.

Street Rodder Magazine is doing a multi issue story on SB-100. They are going to run a car through the process. In the article there is some finger pointing at Cobra manufactures. States included where New York, Alabama, Florida and Arizona. First print is April 2010.
