Madmaxx can weigh in on this. He's owned both and currently owns a Superformance.

One reason is that Backdraft owns it's own factory - Superformance does not. Thus a markup to the "middle man" is added to the Superformance cost.

Both are great cars. The SPF comes standard with Top, Tonneau, heater, defroster, oil cooler. In my opinion, I equate the two like this, the BDR represents a 1500 series pickup turck the SPF represents a 3500 series pickup truck. The SPF is an extremely solid replica, you can hit railroad tracks, chuck holes and never experience a panel rub or squeak. It comes with the authetic mechanical smith gauges up to including the Lucas amp meter. It also has a very nice wooden steering wheel. I also like the belcwat? windshield frame as the originals had one. It does have the shelby licensing (let the flames begin). Traditional 90" wheelbase. The components (suspension) on the SPF were designed for the SPF MK III replica. Other replicas design their cars to accept components from other vehicles, ie, BDR utilize BMW components.

The BDR is in my opinion one of the best buys for the buck, they have come along way and come standard with stainless steel sidepipes. You could not build your own replica for the same money as a BDR and get the same results, the BDR will be better.

You can find alot of BDR's between 35K-45K up to new in some instances. You can find alot of SPF in the 40K to 55K, for a new SPF you will be in the mid 50's. The difference in a new SPF and new BDR is probably $8K which you will get back on resale and in todays market may make the difference between selling your cobra and not.

If possilbe view them both on a lift and you can see additional differences.

Default Drive Both

There are hundreds of posts with information about this topic on this forum, take a minute and read them. I like the BDR look better but the Superformance looks more original. With the SPF, you get to say you have a car licensed by Carroll Shelby, I think that is where the extra money goes, to pay Shelby American. No squeaks or rattles in the BDR either. Hard not to like them both.

I really wish there were BDRs up here in Canada, because I would love to be able to check one out in person and see how it compares to my SPF.

(sigh)

Hmmm, I tried to find a tasteful Soweto image to post in here and just can't seem to find one. Oh well, discretion is the better part....

I always (dis)liked that picture of the really ugly height-challenged person in leather.

The SPF looks more authentic to the original than does the BDR, but both appear to be great choices at their respective price point.

I tried using the search function and the first SPF vs BDR thread that appeared, Patrick "blew up."

So I dug further and I think here's a thread that looks reasonably good where Patrick hasn't "touched" it too much, but then I didn't review every page.

http://clubcobra.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96548

I hope it helps. I tried helping a CSX vs KMP thread a few days back and Jamo sorta "hammered" me, but truthfully, I only had/have good intentions.

Superformance over Backdraft -- the backdraft cars are scary underneath.

I like the KMPs too, but there are little goofy things with them,. -the CSXs too.
