How to test a lucas wiper motor?

I have a lucas wiper motor in a tight spot.

I think I had it wired up correctly but there was no turning going on when I hit the switch.

To test it here is what I did:
I connected the ground terminal (the one that runs perpendicular to the rest of the male terminals) directly to the negative post on the battery.

I think connected the positive post to the lower right terminal on the wiper.


When I did the above I got nothing.


The wiper motor is the one that came with the MKI Factory Five kit.


Any help out there?

As you are looking into the socket on the wiper (with the ground at the top), the left terminals power the motor. High speed at the top, low speed at the bottom.
The right terminals are part of the parking circuit.

As I look at the connections on the wiper motor..........

-The ground which runs perpendicular to the other four terminals is at the top. This male terminal is horizontal.

-The other four are underneath the negative ground. These male terminals are vertical in their placement.

So from what you're saying, to test the motor I should connect power to the other side (either bottem left or top left) to the positive side of the battery to test the motor?

I was going to try this but was afraid to blow the motor. These lucas motors are not cheap.

Yes. Power to either of those terminals should make it work.

Be aware that it's not unusual for the cable system to require "adjustments" to fix binding in various locations.

I took the motor out (not exactly fun the way mine is set up) and I connected the ground to the - post. I then took the bottom right post along with either the fast or the slow post & connected them to the + post. The wiper works!

Now I have to put it all back together and figure out where it is binding.

Wipers now work.

They were binding up fairly bad or the lucas wiper motor doesn't have a lot of torque. Got a new tube and bent it into a gentle curve. With time I can see them getting better.
