How to keep the Cat off your Cobra?
I have a soft cover over the Cobra and while I've done my best to "train" the cat to keep off the beast, I've failed. :CRY: I don't want to kill the cat or beat the krap out of it. Well, maybe :eek: I don't think I would get any good suggestions from a cat lover's forum or I would ask them. You gasholes are my best choice.... Any ideas?

I tried some of the pet repellants on my cover. One of them must have worked because she stopped climbing up there. I bought the repellant at petsmart but can't remember which one......sorry. |
I, er...uh...have a "friend" who has this same problem. His solution was a cat bed (so the cat stays in one place) and a waterproof (fur balls are very wet!) pad (4'x4') on top of the cobra cover but under the cat bed. Also make sure the cat has an easy way up or their claws hitting the exact same place will eventually tear a hole in the cover.
My "friend" also has washed the cover (Noah fabric) with a bottle of Fantastic and it came out like new. I am actually a...er...uh...Dog guy! |

Not all of the basturds there love cats as much as I do...we have 9, and the wife has begun leaving crunchies out for the neighbor's 4-5 cats. My Cobra's locked up in a separate garage, so no problem there. But my daily drivers over the years, including my new black E550 with the nice warm engine compartment exhaust vents on the hood was becoming a favorite haunt of the main alpha garage b!tch: Spike. My solution...got the wifey a new Bug convertible (cloth top), which Spike saw as a wonderful alternative given its springiness. Spike now leaves my panzor alone, and da wifey now understands what I've been compalining about. :p Seriously, the Bug is very Cobra-like in the issues you raise. We've tried sprays and electric-shock pads (which the cats simply look at as they walk around them). We finally settled on a comfy old thick quilt thrown over the top. Way too thick for Spike to rip through, keeps body oils off the cloth top...and is washable. Another choice would be a mover's blanket. The VW's slopped front is not a problem...for a Cobra, simply add another blanket over the hood (and trunk). Trust me...no car cover is going to do what you need. Don't try arguing with the cat...you will lose. |
Tin foil did the trick for me. Three strips on the front and three on the back, on top of the cover for sure. Just more or less outlined the body. Cats don't like the foil.

When you wash your cover use Simplegreen instead of detergent. Works well and better for the cover. As for the cats - maybe some of the prickly plastic grass that you hit plastic golf balls off of? Cats shouldn't like walking on that much.

As an aside, be careful about washing the car cover. Every time I have washed a cover, it has begun to disintegrate and then leaves fine "dust" all over the car. Even the manufacturers of some covers advise just rinsing them off with water, not using commercial washers/dryers and detergent.
Another aside, I have a 50 lb dog that likes to jump on the hood of the cars when she gets scared. My cobra has a cover, blanket, brooms, boxes and any other thing I can think of to keep her off of my car. Wife thinks it's funny when I go out to the garage and find 16 deep scratches on the hood of my Honda where the dog has jumped on it and slid off. Time for a new dog or a new wife? |

Many years ago I had a broken window in my walkin door in my garage where I parked my 56 AC Bristle. I had a strange cat **** in my seat. I didn't see the **** untill after I had allready sat in it. The next morning I used a 12 GA on that cat. I never had any more cats **** in my car again. Back then we used to have burn barrels. I told a neighbor lady that had heard the boom that possibly an aerosol can had exploded in the burn barrel.
