front spindles on a FFR MK3
previous owner built my FFR MK3. i pulled wheels to get at headers and pipes to get ceramic coated. while off i noticed my ball joints are toast. prob is i have NO idea what the spindles came off....any way to identify these ? i know his donor car was a 73 tbird ( for the 460 BB ), dont think these are spindles off that car. other challenge is previous owner is off fighting for our country in Afghanistan and un reachable. really would like to put this back together soon.

there are 2 different spindles we have used on MKIII FFRs.
type 1 - 87-93 type 2 94-95 there are others , but these are the most common. |
What do the brakes look like? If the hub and rotor are one piece, it's a fox body spindle. If the hub and rotor are seperate peices, it's SN95.
But, that has nothing to do with the ball joint. I can't remember the exact part number, but I believe it's a Dodge part. |

It looks like you have spindles from a '93 or earlier mustang. I would highly suggest upgrading these at this time to the SN95 spindles that give you more options for wheel/tire combo's. Just do a search on the interweb's and you will find plenty of info. Also do a search on that other forum (ffcars.com) and there is plenty of info there as well. If you don't want to upgrade right now, just get ball joints for '87 - '93 fox body mustang.

You should post this question on FFCars.com - the ball joints are NOT mustang - some chrysler corp joint 0 the are installed in the spindle adapter (thingy with two large bolts in pic)

That spindle adapter is Mustang - here's mine -

Fox Mustangs don't have upper ball joints. The upper on those control arms are a scew in Chrysler part not Mustang. The spindle adapter is a custom FFR piece, not Mustang. Make sure all your ball joint to spindle washers and castle nuts go back the same way.
TRW #10162 or Moog #K-772 for the ball joint Summit Racing # ENS-5-13102G or Energy Suspension #913130R for the upper and lower dust boots. |
Also be aware that if you choose to upgrade to SN95 spindles you'll need to get new spindle adapters from FFR. The SN95 mounting holes are in a different place from a Fox spindle. The new adapters accomodate both styles, but the picture you show only has one set of mounting holes and thus won't work for an SN95 spindle.

One more word of advice. If you upgrade to the SN95, be sure to get a set from a 94 or 95 Mustang. If you look at CoryB's picture, you will see the tie rod mounting arm kicks upward and has a double bend. The 96 and later models do not have this. They have a straight arm and will throw your steering off a bit.

got front end back together.....and proceeded to take it into shop and get all lifters replaced....1 real bad, 2 iffy....so replace all.....found great mechanic over here on east side of dallas if anyone is interested....thanks again.
