Well... alright. A slightly different angle, that allows you to get a feel for the "texture" of the padding and tape. You gotta admit, fetching it indeed is.;)

And I thought I was ugly. :o

The only thing uglier than two roll-bars is two padded roll-bars.

Sounds good. Like the old saying " I'd rather have a sister in a whore house than a brother with two padded roll-bars".

This thread should be titled "Show me your padded CELL." THEN, you would get more people besides Patrick, of course, posting on this thread.

One thing is for certain with the padded roll bars.Either you like it or you don't.The black looks great against silver paint!

What I had in mind was a true headrest, not just padding in the tubing. It would clamp to the bar at the back (not shown), with a snap-on or Velcro'd pad.

Interesting. That also might have the added benefit of reducing wind buffeting at speed.

Maybe it's just the way I sit in my car, but by the time my head hits the roll bar, the damage to my spine has already been done.

Headrests attached to the rollbar seems to be the best way to go, safety wise.

Now, has anyone designed one that actually looks good?

That would be like the headrests sold at CobraEarl ( bottom of the page ):

Quite a serious issue here. Even though I don't have a padded bar, I should know better. Back in '85, my ex-wife was seriously injured when she crashed her Jeep CJ and hit her head on her unpadded roll bar. Even though she appeared to recover (she experienced short term memory loss for several days), she was never quite the same after the accident (I'm not being a smart ass here). Probably better off without any roll bar on these cars, as a turnover is quite rare. The best bet would be a padded bar with a SNELL rated helmet. That bar can kill you.

ERA Chas 06-12-2010 01:50 PM

Overlooked here is the fact that in a frontal impact you can eat the windshield-even with a 3" five point harness.

These cars are anything but safe. Maybe that's some of the attraction here, along with the power. Just more reason to drive with your head screwed on straight.

I used some high density roll bar padding that I bought from Pegasus.

I was concerned that it would look ugly.

Silverback51 06-12-2010 08:39 PM

I like the Mini woody wagon.

Is that yours?
