It would probably look a little prettier to have the padding go all the way down to the body.
It also seems like you could bump your head on the support bar. Why not pad that too. Do you feel that the padding is adequate to protect your un-helmeted head? Quote:

I put the roll bar pad on the first time that I open tracked the car and it has stayed on ever since. Required at many tracks but it is a must for the street in my opinion. Its 1" Kirkey SFI approved held on with tie wraps.
