Unhappy Cobra upside down in a creek

On Channel 5 news (DFW) this evening they showed a car upside down in a creek in Arlington. Based on the chassis design it looked like a Cobra. I went to their web site and they had video of it being removed. It appears to be a polished Kirkham. The occupant(s) reportedly escaped without injury.

Does anyone know who it was or what happened?

That is a scary angle to be looking at a Kirkham.

I'm hoping not but they probably did more damage to it putting it down on the roadway than he did putting it in the creek. Maybe i should look him up for a parts car.

If you read the article, he landed upside down in the creek. I'm hoping it was mechanical failure and not some idiot with more money than brains trying to show off his car.........

I'm betting it was a loose nut behind the wheel that caused it.

"Police say the 57-year-old driver was watching a racing event at UTA, but as he was leaving, he lost control of the car and went over a curb, only to land in a small creek.

The race the driver was watching is part of the 10th annual Texas Autocross event that included 35 cars from 14 colleges."

Maybe he didn't have his MIG Pilots Lic. ...they take off easy and fast, but the landings can be difficult.
Glad he wasn't hurt.

I believe I saw this car at the Autorama in Dallas. This was about mid February. The owner was about 57 years old, grayed haired fella. It was a polished Kirkham, remebered it very well was drooling severely.

I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Apparently there was no harm done other than to the car and the driver's ego, so I'm willing to call it a broken carb return spring that locked him at full throttle. Who knows? He might have saved lives by carefully pointing his car in to the creek in order to avoid others.

I'm not, still betting he was all jazzed up from watching the races.People were of course eyeing him when he headed out too.

So,he ran out of smarts and skill all at the same time.

Loose nut behind the wheel.

I don't know about that. Right after I typed my last message I was thinking to myself "how fast could I react to a busted carb spring?" I used to be pretty fast, but every year my reactions seem to get slower. And just as I was thinking that to myself, while sitting in my easy chair with my laptop on my lap, a puff of smoke came out the side of my laptop and drifted up through a sunbeam coming in through the window and I immediately thought to myself "what the hell is wrong with my car now?" It took me a good second and a half, maybe two, before I realized that I was not driving my Cobra but rather was sitting in my easy chair typing on my laptop. Absolutely true story. Perhaps I just need more sleep, but I think after that they probably would be fishing me out of the creek as well.

So you are now confusing your Lazy Boy with your Cobra? Probably about time to get you wearing Depends and drinking Ensure.

Any Cobra upside down in a creek is sad situation. But especially a polished Kirkham.
