Windshield cleaning
I have tried different ways for cleaning my windshield on my cobra and GT and have not found anything that does not leave a streaky residue
I have tried microfiber , cotton and newspaper to wipe it down
I have only tried windex as a cleaner
Any suggestions

I have been using "Invisible Glass" from Stoner... wiping it off with cheap paper towels and have have been very pleased with the results.

Spraway Glass Cleaner and microfiber=clean with no streaks.

Before you can get the outer glass really "clean", you must remove the road film that most cleaners will not take off. Us a wet towel and "Bon Ami" cleanser, scrub hard and then rinse with cool water. THEN use whatever glass cleaner you like.
Also proper prep for Rain-X or Aquapel.

I also use the Invisible Glass with a microfiber towel. I wet one towel with the Invisible Glass, wipe the window, then use the dry towel to take the residue off. Keep wiping until you're sure that all of the moisture from the cleaner has been removed.

Meguiar's Glass Cleaner (I get it in the concentrate - seems to pretty much make a lifetime supply) also works well. Spray, clean with a towel, then flip towel over and dry off any excess residue and it's perfect.

This is exactly what I do. Spraying the towel prevents overspray on the paint. |

My detailer gave me this tip years ago.....works the best!
Just water and 2 cotton towels!!, Yep, that is all!!
no streaks and is always easy to travel with towels and water. I have tried all others and there is NO STREAKING with water and towels. Sorry, just that simple.

This sounds too good to be true however I have been doing this for about 3 years. Only thing I do differently is I use a polishing rag to dry the glass. No streaks and no lint.
You can buy these as a kit as I did. I used Stoner's invisible glass before that and found it to be the best cleaner I ever used. Amazing how well the Stoner's works on inside windows on regular cars. |

I've been using 'Bon Ami' for years. There is a major misconception that 'Bon Ami' will etch or scratch your glass (Comet, Ajax and Soft Scrub will). 'Bon Ami' does not. Just make sure you do a proper rinse to insure the residue from the cleaning is off the car's finish (it can remove wax). Old fashioned 'Glass Wax' did a nice job between cleanings in the old days. I don't know if it is still available? I'm not in the position to comment on the suitability of 'Bon Ami' for use on a Lexan windshield but would guess that it would be safe. Ask an expert first.

Sprayaway Glass Cleaner
No ammonia. My paint guy recommended it to clean the car after painting (no wax on the new paint) I have used it ever since. Use a good lint free towel.
It is quick and easy. I found out I like driving more than cleaning.:D

I just purchased "Invisible Glass" from Stoner and all the cleaners look good until you take the car out and the sun light comes through the windshield and it then:CRY: shows every streak as if you never cleaned the glass.

As long as you do a second wipe with a dry towel (I use microfiber), I have never had any streaks with Meguiar's Glass Cleaner.

I found using cheap distilled white vinegar in warm water -- Ratio of 2 cups Water (500 ml) 1/2 cup Vinegar (125 ml) You can also add one small drop of Dawn Dish Detergent which will make the glass shine. Dry with crumpled up newspaper or a clean old t-shirt . If you are doing a regular car with many windows you will want to change newsprint often to avoid leaving lint on the surface.
An old dish cloth works great for washing (let it sit for a few minutes) if the glass is covered with bugs!

It might be the what you are using to apply it with. I bought some lint free cotton rags, and I was getting steaks. When I switched to the microfiber towels I no longer had streaks. |

We have used Griot Garage products for many years,with excellent results.Stopped using RainX years ago because of the haze it leaves.

I use spray glass cleaner (windex or whatever equivalent is in the house) with cheap paper towels. Soft ones don't work as well.
The problem space is the inside (not on Cobras, but regular vehicles). The outgassing of the plastic creates a nasty film that is really hard to get rid of. It always streaks. When I got my windshield replaced I got a can of a foamy spray stuff from the glass company and that works really well. I've also used a water/vinegar/denatured alcohol concoction that cuts through it too.
