Share Your 2011 Winter Cobra Projects, Fixes, or Upgrades?

Any 2011 Winter projects out there?

If interested, maybe post a reply or even a few photos of what you are working on this winter. A few of us were chatting on another thread, it would be nice to see some posts on what some of you are working on out there, or what questions maybe some new members have - even if its a topic that has already been posted before; let's see it!

Doing a New Cobra build?

Time for TLC?

Sorting out bugs?

Major modifications?

Tire/Wheel changes?

Repaint?

New Exhaust?

New trinkets, doo-dads, and what-nots for Christmas?

Lets see those photos - no matter what it is!

Duane,

I have several 2011 winter projects, none of which are exciting to you veterans. I’m still working off bugs from the initial purchase this past summer (new SPF/KC 408).

This shiny new car has more leaks than a New Orleans levee.

Project #1. Determine why clutch slave is leaking and fix.

Project #2. Confirm oil leak is fixed.

Project #3. Redo recently installed coolant bypass hose with better fitting hose.

A couple even more mundane minor projects.

Winter has put a damper on my progress.

Bob

Actually, the car is in the basement for the Winter...it fit through my 6ft door with about an inch to spare on either side.

On the short list:

1. Trying to make a decision on wheels/tires for next season's auto-x
2. Get the LeMans top fitted with more robust solutions
3. Split the trunk and re-hinge to make it useable once again.
4. Construct some side curtains for those early Spring/Late Fall trips
5. Fix an annoying (to me) squeek coming from somewhere behind the dash
6. Adjust front/rear end alignment with a little more agressive auto-x settings
7. Check weber float settings
8. Take lots of pics along the way and post on CC.

No progress pics until closer to the Christmas Holiday break....just too much going on now and my car fettling motivation is at a low point.

- Allen.

Dash squeak

Is it coming from the decorative support near the heater box? If so, please post your fix if you manage to fix it. We can stop ours if we hold the bar, but can't figure out how to fix it. Tried a rubber gasket and tightening, but it still comes back. Drives me crazy.

In the spirit of Duane's thread, why not post how you lowered it and the driving results it accomplished? Many FIA's come through a little too high-might be very helpful.

Add AVONs
Weld bungs and tune A/F ratio
Fix squeal in brakes
Change brake, clutch fluid
Oil, filter change
Nut and bolt

I'm starting a new KMP project with a cammer. The build will start in about two weeks. This project will be a little different. How about a Kirkham flip-top? New thread starting soon. Darren.

Just bought my cobra less than a month ago.

The only thing I'm doing right now is taking out the highbacks and putting lowbacks in.

Following for me,

Wilbers Suspension.

SPF Bigger disc brakes and Calipers on the Front.

Change Rubber Exhaust Brackets under body.

SS knockoffs

Adding 17inch Wheels (from Vintage)

Bigger Fuel pump.

:D

Skip.

undy 12-16-2010 03:50 AM

...things that I can think of.

New QA-1s and springs all the way around.

New Stainless steel radiator over flow tank, replacing the plastic one.

Install an in-dash wideband O2 system that I squirreled away last spring.

Put a wrench or socket on every nut and bolt that I can get to along with a complete under-car inspection, to include fluids.

Still thinking about that (well hidden) progressive 300hp fogger system .... just for those "special" occasions. The memory of the spin-out is starting to fade.:rolleyes:

I had a similar squeak, turned out to be the forward end of aluminum panel on the top of the transmission hump was not fully tightened. Nearly drove me crazy until I found it. Tracking noises in a car that makes as much "sound" as a Cobra is a PITA.

I'll be building a 15x22 garage to build my Hurricane cobra in.

Thanks, Gary...you just made me realize that Joy was replying to my hit list where I mentioned my squeek...HA! I thought she was addressing Bob, the poster above me, who has leaks....it all makes perfect sense now..

Thanks for your thought, though. My car is fully carpeted so I'll have to see what I find under the rugs...I was thinking mine was coming from the dash support rods, same as Joy, but I couldn't sense a change when I braced them with my hand. My "squeek" is most audible when idle vibrations are shaking the car, and when going over highway expansion joints... I'll check the trans panel, though...might be something to that.. I'll be sure to post my solution (confidence is everything ;) )

Chas....Good thought. For the sake of added technical content to the site, I'll consider that.

My project is a simple one. Just replacing the batteries and do a safety inspection.

mdross1 12-19-2010 05:50 AM

My only fix is the bows installed with softtop on.They were custom fit to keep the top from fluttering in the wind and slapping me on the head.Made to quickly install and remove with stainless hardware.Have a new 1000cfm Davinci dbl pmp carb to finish tweaking this spring.

My winter Cobra project is:

- Repaint with color change from Silver to Blue
- Cleanup and refurb a few bits along the way while putting it back together
- Currently stuck on leaving wheels alone or repainting, swapping tires, not sure...etc.

SF_SN888KE 12-19-2010 08:42 AM

Winter project on cobra:
pull DFI distributor and send back to Accel (error code 72, crank sync) ($75 min)
pull Gen 7 unit for firmware upgrade ($250)
adding dual 02 bungs and A/F kit ($900)
adding A/F gauge kit ($160)
polishing side pipes since they will be off
pulling fuel tank to fix fueling backflow problem - adding bigger vent, changing inlet angle
find someone to tune Accel Gen 7 system ...
getting another loan on house to keep paying for upgrades!
