Fuel Millage
 
I have an ERA Cobra, what size fuel tank does it have? With a 427 and 3.23 gears, any idea what I might get for fuel millage? I'm just wondering how far I might go on a tank of gas.

You have an 18 gallon tank. Forget mileage, refill the tank when the gauge reads 1/2 full. Drive the car to see how far you get on a 1/2 tank and use that as a guide.

Mileage is unimportant because the odometers are seldom accurate and the fuel pick-up won't allow you to get down to near empty.

My Smiths odometer is pretty much right on the money. Not perfect, but certainly good enough. I get between 8 and 12 MPG, depending. The fuel gauge is kind of squirrelly, so what I do is just reset the odometer at each fill up and try and fill the tank as soon as I hit 100 miles, and under no circumstance try and go past 150 miles.

What fun is that to fill up with a half tank of gas? You have to get the gauge as low as you can without running out of gas to really enjoy the ride! I've had my gauge below the empty line and I got 16.1 gallons in my 17 gallon tank.

Thanks guys, just what I was looking for. This gives me an idea how far I might be able to go. My car has a good working fuel gauge but I haven't driven it enough to check fuel millage.

Freeway cruising I have had up to 18mpg. Normal driving around 9mpg. I usually fill up at 1/2 tank also. If I don't and decide I need to hammer it to smoke someone, my fuel pump will sucks air below 1/2 tank!!!!!!!! Thirsty big block drinks a lot.

Mixed city/highway mpg for me is about 10, but 14 on the highway at a steady speed. Even when I'm "below the E" I've never been able to get in more than 16 gallons. My odometer is accurate and I rely on it compared to the fuel gauge to estimate the range to my next pitt stop. :) I often run the tank down to 1/4 before filling.

I NEVER go on a race track with anything less than 1/2 tank and prefer more than that. You can loose fuel pressure from hard cornering or simply run out of gas before you know it! That 427 side oiler is setup "rich" when I'm on the track and it really gulps the fuel at full throttle.

Do you guys use the fuel with 10% ethanol or search out good stuff?
I have non ethanol here, but it's only 92 octane, not 93. Which is best?

We have no choice but to use the 10% stuff,my tank seldom gets below 1/2 as do my everyday drivers.Mileage? never checked just because never concerned about it.Maybe I will just for kicks.

Thanks for the help, Sense I have a choice I'll stick with the non ethanol stuff we have here.
