Raydot Mirror Question
I have decided to go to a Raydot mirror mounted on the side of the windshield. I don't have the mirror yet but am now making various brackets out of 1/8" aluminum. Does anyone have the diameter of the mounting base for the mirror ? I have seen a few pictures of brackets but if you have an opinion about the height or how the bracket should be made please let me know. It would be appreciated.

I have a 60's version Raydyot measuring 1.5" at the base.

I wouldn't waist your time making them when Finish Line sell them for $ 18.00. I have them on my car in gallery.

Good information. Thanks guys.

In my little British sports car world, I have two pet peeves: "Sterling" instead of "Stirling Moss" and "Raydot" instead of "Raydyot" mirrors:

Or an expensive re-pop...... http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/4...cture008kz.jpg Sorry no offense taken....... Wayne, great job on your build! My vote custom make the brackets they will be cheaper and you can say you made'em... |
I am making some other trim anyway and I have the material so I might as well.
So are all these companies advertising the mirrors with the wrong spelling. For years I have only seen it spelled Raydot. That's interesting Rick. |
To beat this subject into the ground, here's an original on CSX2011:

Kirkham makes a polished bracket for mounting a Raydyot mirror on the windshield post.

Now that's good information since I was going to have them cut my other pieces on their water jet anyway. Living 15 minutes away had it's advantages.
Thanks. |
Alas, the maker of the very best mounts, the Buckley Mirror Mounts, just can't be nudged to do any more.
|
The word on the street is that he's retired from fabrication... and now has other tasks to fill his time.
What say you Pat? |
The two Raydyot style (no Raydyot stamping on the case) mirrors that came with my ERA measure about 1.5 inches. The gasket under the base is about 1 9/16 inches across.

Thanks Quick289, that's exactly what I needed.

Pat has offered instructions and Jamo has the sweet example. I'm making some to order now.

If I had a Cobra to work off I could make some, but as I don't, it looks like Mickmate will be carrying the torch forward!! :) |
Pat, we missed you at breakfast Saturday. See you next month.
