Bare CSX's?

Anyone know of any bare metal finish 2000 / 3000-series original cars? I mean restored, not built originally that way. I'm thinking like the gent's 800HP race car (can't remember the CSX #)
Photos welcomed.

The Supersnake was painted.

The polished aluminum one is in the museum in Vegas. It's the only one I'm aware of.

Bruce's car CSX3170??

ERA Chas Morris car here and Cobra #3170 are both Kirkham cars but I don't think they are painted. Rick L.

ERA Chas 04-06-2011 07:45 AM

Rick-3170 is who I was thinking of but that IS NOT a KMP....

computerworks 04-06-2011 08:00 AM

I believe 3170 is painted silver

So Ron, you have no evidence of even one in the archives?

mreid 04-06-2011 08:31 AM

From an archive perspective, CSX2557 and CSX2558 were both delivered unpainted with black trim (designated for racing). CSX3002 through CSX3101 were also delivered unpainted (several were chassis only). As was CSX3127 and CSX3139. CSX3170 is an AC car and was delivered silver with black trim.

This doesn't answer your original question as the unpainted ones were for the most part later painted with race team colors. Other than hearing from a current owner, I don't know how we would ever know if any orignal ones are today unpainted.

...why, you would check the Shelby American Automobile Club World Registry of Cobras. :p

Adding to mreid's post, most all "race cars" thru the CSX2000 series (dozens) were delivered bare metal.

Frank Zizzo had his Junk Yard Dog early CSX2000 car bare metal for years, but just recently repainted it. There are a few others, but some have gotten recent paint to "enhance" the value.

What is the purpose of the query?

Seeing the preponderance of KMP's over the years here in bare skin, it occurred to me that I'd not seen any originals that way. Just thought I'd missed them or wasn't paying attention.
I realize that original owners consider original-color paint is part of the 'value-enhancer'.
Except that maniac 3170...:JEKYLHYDE

computerworks 04-06-2011 09:01 AM

The popularity of KMP "bare naked ladies" has nothing to do with emulation of originals, or originality.

Most do it to show off that the car is metal, not 'glas.

It sources from the brute visual appeal of Tom Kirkham's early race mule

It should be pointed out that while a number of cars were delivered from AC to SAI in bare aluminum, many if not most were painted by SAI before delivery to the customer.

Picking on us KMP owners again? When will it ever stop.

My KMP is what is now coined as a "Day Two" car. I'm trying to emulate the 2nd day of CSX ownership where the new CSX3000 owner stripped off all the paint said "Hey, this would look good polished."

No, he's trying to earn a living in between checking the mag wheel thread and any other transgressions that might pop up during the day here.

Mine is currently sanded and bare, and will be painted blue.

ERA Chas 04-06-2011 10:29 AM

Well thank you! Would love to see it and George's handiwork too...

Uh-transgressions? Here? Ya think?

OK, I'm sorry, but I have to ask.

Will that be Princess, LeMans, Viking, Guardsman, custom or will you pick from the Lexus or BMW lines? :)

computerworks 04-06-2011 03:20 PM

There is only one blue for a 427.

I just knew that was coming! lol

I am sure that there were many bare metal cars before I got mine, but the inspiration for polishing mine was the picture of the CSX car parked on a chequerboard floor at Shelby.......took my breath away.

If I were to do it again it would be painted the regular blue.
