I drive mine and I do occasional shows (2-4 per season). When we show it, We don't spend all day cleaning and detailing but my wife and I do make a good effort to make it presentable.

There is a special show near us that we do every year. We enjoy it. The first couple of years at the show when the car was in pristine condition, we won nothing (which was OK with us, no big deal). The third year we entered we took second in our class and the car was clean but certainly not pristine (road use was showing). The fourth year, they read the winners for my class and we were not one of the winners. That was understandable because the car is a bit pock marked in the front now. After all of the winners in our class were announced and we got nothing, we headed home. A couple of nights later, at a car club meeting, a friend bought me a trophy I had won at the show. We had won Best of Show. We had left before they named the BOS winner. We were very happy with the results but also very surprised and a bit ashamed that we left too soon.

We enjoy the shows but we try to not let our egos get too tied up in these shows. You never know how these things will turn out...good or bad.

Well, after hearing all the bashing, I'm here to stick up for the trophy and car show accessory industries.

It's the car show organizers who pick the quality of the trophy, not the trophy company. There are plenty of expensive trophies available to them for purchase. The car show organizers are just cheap and buy the cheap trophies.

Also, if people keep buying the "kid crying on the bumper" accessory, then why should they quit making them?

Damn straight they should keep making them. Otherwise, what would we have the stuffed dog piss on?

Everyone has their preferences. I'm not one to clean every spec of dust from my car, nor do I care about some ugly trophy. That's not why I built it & it's surely not why I enjoy driving it. I do enjoy the local car show, though. For me it's about seeing what everyone else brings. I see my car every day I enjoy seeing the 1955 Chev Bel Air with $20k in paint as much as the Rat Rod with a Rattle Can finish & holes in the floor.
