Default Service Bulletin for GT500 Clutches

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2008 GT500 with less than 600 miles on the car. I recently heard the Ford issued a service bulletin for the clutches in these cars. If this is true, can anyone on the forum share this info? Since the car went into service in May of 2008, some warranties expire next month. I believe the drive train warranty might be 5 years.

Thank you, Cobra 29

BTW, I will keep my ERA Cobra!

Go to www.teamshelby.com and do a search, the issue is covered repeatedly at that site. It is not an issue with typical driving habits.

The problem is the flywheels were substandard for the heat and they warp. Mine failed at about 7,000 miles driven fairly moderately, never raced. Part of the TSB is a much better grade flywheel.

I'd verify the TSB on the flywheel/clutch was done or consider not buying the car. I'd say it is a pretty big deal and most of the GT500 forums I was on felt the same way. It's about a $5k fix if you have to pay for it. Oh, and the warranty is only 3 years.

It is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) and not a recall. That means you'll have to have a demonstrable defect to get it replaced. It won't be replaced as "preventative maintenance".

I just had my car at the dealership last week for the cd player quit working. My warranty was up last Friday (2008) car. I to was concerned about the clutch tsb even though my car shows no signs of the flywheel problem. they told me that the flywheel was the problem and the tsb covers the flywheel which has to be sold as a complete kit and that was part of the drivetrain warranty which is 5 years or 60000 miles. They told me that they would perform the tsb anytime as long as I met the powertrain waranty time line and the car was showings problems with tsb guidelines.
