Why do you guys spend big bucks on tires and then do burnouts, seems like burnouts just shorten the life of the tires. :confused:

Are burnouts motivated by the result of an inner desire to just let "things" rip or what?: :eek:

1 It's a power trip, if you have to ask, you will never understand.
2 It's to impress the cops for tickets.
3 It's a way to get new tires and show the other half way you need them.
4 Bug season, Give you and extra 10-15 without getting bite.
5 Escape from the law when you have been bad.
6 Shows you can do more damage to your car when the tires blow that others.
7 Nothing like the smell of racing gas and rubber burning in the morning.
8 It's the new dumba$$ sport for the 2016 Olympics.

Rick has pretty much covered all of the bases. Put another way, burning rubber is a way to heat the tires at the dragstrip for some; a way to draw attention to yourself for others and for many; it's simply a way to see, feel, hear and smell the brute power of your street machine for a brief moment without the obvious risks associated with running it up to its power peak in every gear on the street.

Everyone has their own perspective, but asking why is kinda like asking why someone would own a flimsy,bare bones, 500+ HP replicar with no safety features, minimal comfort and almost no protection from the elements that can easily rocket through a 1/4 mile from a standing start in under 12 seconds when for the same money or less, you can buy a much more "sensible" car that is far better suited to the laws and conditions under which it will primarily be used. Like Rick said, "If you have to ask, you will never understand."

Is the Cobra going to be your first experience with a high performance car, ol' buddy? If so - talk about a baptism by fire :LOL: And be careful - there's nothing inherently "unsafe" about the way a properly set up Cobra behaves or handles - its just that the relatively massive power in the small, light car can get you into big trouble double quick if you are not 100% sure what you're doing when you're doing it. ;)

John are you trying to start some ****, or what? You might want to come back to the states and hang out with some car guys for a while !:LOL: BTW, did the csx video get through the "red guard"?

Personally have always loved doing burnouts always will.Tires, like spark plugs,and other wear items are factored in when building my escape vehicles.For me a small price to pay for the amount of satisfaction doing a smoky burnout gives.Actually the car hooks up quite soon since having the suspension setup.Suggestion,pickup another set of wheels shod them with cheap tires and go let it all hang out.Be careful it is very addicting and these cars want the rearend to pass the front if you are not vigilant..

since I have never had the pleasure of doing a burnout in my own car or any car for that matter, I thought I would ask the question, it seems my premise is sound since burnouts decidedly shortens the life span of the tire, whereas what I sense is that burnouts are derivative of an innate male need to create a wow factor in a car that arguably has more power that the average dude needs. In other words if ya got it flaunt it. Sorta follows along the same line of why we 'boys" will rev the car when going thru a tunnel, just to make a noise and feel good. Yep, I do believe I got it, now.:LOL::D

Waaa, the video took 2 hours to download and then crapped out during the last minute. I will try downloading it later tonight when the traffic is not as intense. We somehow got to get that csx video thru the Chicom cyberspace so we can get all the car enthusiasts fired up. These guys are chompin' at the bit for high end performance cars. The Shanghai auto show had a special edition Ashton Martin on show at US$7.5 million, only eleven will be made and within the first hour of opening, all were sold, go figure. This place is ripe for high end muscle cars.

You're not missing so much on that video, I remembered you couldn't get 'em after I posted.

Now the CSX video? .... THAT'S worth some covert effort.

My take is it's just a call for attention..."see me"..."see what I can do"..."see my car". We're not talkin' about drag racing burnouts, for which there is a reason, or what these young Nascar drivers do after a win (congratulations) that I don't understand at all, but just a call to any cops who may be around. It's also a reason to get charged with reckless driving if you are caught. If you have any self confidence, you don't need to behave like a child. Just my opinion.

Guys do burnouts because they can.:rolleyes::JEKYLHYDE:) However, the desire for and frequency of burnouts typically decrease once the expensive set of tires is "cashed"--and it's time to purchase a new set of tires.;)

The size, the smoke, the duration, and - if necessary- the need to replace your rear tires after they catch on fire, as well as repaint your rear fenders... it's all part of the ritual that has grown out of the age-old primal male claim, "Mine is bigger than yours is." Because, when it isn't, you gotta do a burnout or something similar to make the statement in a manner you can try to defend. Get it?

Sorta like one of the reasons I have prepared tee shirts that say Cobra Owner: DFWM and one that has tin-man on the front and why most expats I know here in China, at least the ones in the construction business and those who are the main dudes running local factories, have large brass ballz, carry a big swingin stick, walk with a swagger, have an attitude bigger than a bus, drink a lot, like their women hot, don't take S*** from anyone, anywhere, at any time, and to which I can now add "and do burnouts, just because". .

They're just fun. Especially when I can follow that up with a couple of tail spinning donuts in the parking lot. Every time I do it, it makes me laugh out loud. Once you try it, you'll understand it.

Yes, it wears out the tires. And.....? Running the engine burns off fuel and makes the side pipes dirty.
