I'm in as my current set are cracked. I would like new tires and not two year old inventory.

elmariachi 11-21-2011 10:17 AM

So tentatively committed:

elmariachi
bwcobra15
Mongoose930
avanti-176
ZOERA-SC7XX
Jlip
legenmetals

Then Nick has mentioned that "Dennis" and "Joe" are interested, not sure if they are one of the above user names, Nick please clarify. So we are at either 7 or 9 sets.

With regard to side cracking, I can't speak for Nick's eastern distributor but Jerry at Carter Maxwell said all the tires he is getting that he would sell us would be fresh out of the molds, white letters in their "generally correct" position and not aged. Also, all of these are now made only in the US, no more offshore tires.

Nick any update on your guy>

Hi Jim, I have a call in to the East Coast Rep. I'm asking what our quantity/price break will be and confirming he can drop ship to wherever they're needed. I have got them shipped pretty fast and reasonable as they just put a shipping label on each tire.

Simple NO! Mark

Guys,

With all due respect, could you please stop posting your tires for sale in the middle of this thread? I am trying to garner support for a group buy of NEW Billboards from GY distributor, not to gather a discussion about everyone here who has a set of tires for sale. If you have tires for sale, go start your own thread or as an even more novel idea....go post a For Sale in the classifieds.

Thanks,

Jim

Rear: B 26.5X10.5-15 GOODYEAR 263.00 N 26.7 10.2 12.9 on 9.0 7 8 8.5 - 11.0

If we can get to 10-12 sets I think we have a good basis to request a discount.

I talked to our Northeast Rep at Competition Tire East. It looks like a quantity of 10 sets. That translates to 20 fronts and 20 rears. They will do a discount on both the tires and shipping at that volume.
The dealers are by region and with the tires going all over they would have to be shipped to me (or someone in his region) and distributed from there.
They control stock rotation at the dealer not at the manufacturer. They don't keep inventory over winter as they are just going to sit so that suggests a fresh batch. They are also better at storing and controlling (dry) atmosphere and exposure to the environment than we are. Good news for Boxhead is that there is a dealer in Oz that does about two containers a year. I'll PM that info to him or anyone that wants it.
I will post the prices he comes up with as soon as I have them and we'll see who has the best deal for us.

elmariachi 11-22-2011 09:23 AM

It would seem to me that by the time they ship to you and you to us, we will have eroded whatever savings we get. Would it not be easier and cheaper for us to just call Competition and order and arrange shipping individually once the discount is set?

mickmate 11-22-2011 09:36 AM

I agree but they are regional distributors. Lets see what he comes up with for a number. Will your contact drop ship to wherever they're needed?

mickmate 11-22-2011 03:15 PM

From my Goodyear rep.
Here is the pricing that we can offer to you:
D2546 (Front) – $213.20 (18%)
D2547 (Rear) - $213.20 (18%)
Racer / Retail pricing is $260.00 - both front and rear. This is Goodyear’s current MSRP for these codes.
If you can bump your order to 26 units of each, the weight of shipment would then qualify for free freight from Goodyear’s warehouse in Shelby, OH. Both codes are currently in stock.

Just so we're all clear these are race tires, it says on them "not for highway use", the letters are just sprayed on, show tires need detailing by the owner, they are a bias ply race tire, read on here what people like/dislike about them, they hunt, flatspot and all that stuff. With a good alignment in the car they work great IMHO and you can't beat the look. I have them for mine already and don't need any. I think we should try and get 13 sets and go for the free shipping to me or someone like Jim. I'm at NH 03245 if you want to figure shipping costs from here. I ship Fedex out of my shop.

This is much cheaper than the SW regional distributor. If I understand correctly if we get to 13 sets then GY will have the tires shipped to you for free. Nick, if we have you order and take delivery how would you want to be paid? I assume we would all prepay you and then you can safely place the order. Do we need to include a handling fee per buyer for you to do this?

legenmetals 11-23-2011 08:22 AM

I would rather pay a little more for shipping to insure getting fresh tires than shipping to a regional dealer that will rotate his stock and send me old inventory.I just went around with Tire Rack on a set of tires that were two years old. Tire Rack sent me fresh tires on their dime, good people to work with. They say tires are good for four years,I'm not sure that is true but why buy tires that already have two years of exposure to uv and ozone. My Billboards lasted only two years.

elmariachi 11-23-2011 08:35 AM

If you read the post above you will see that what we are talking about is buying enough sets to have Good Year ship them directly to one of us and then shipped to you. In that case no dealer will be involved to rotate stock. Furthermore, Good Year is apparently now producing fewer of these tires and there is no "aged stock.". But BEWARE that these are race tires and are not manufactured with the same compounds as street tires and do not have ozone protection. They do crack and age over time. My set has 3 driving seasons on them and 6500 miles and have started cracking. If you are looking for a street tire that last lasts 30-40k miles this ain't the tire for you.
