Scheme and color are probably the hardest choices to make. It's really up to you as you're the one who looks at it everyday. Personally, I'm an originalist and like to see original colors but that's just me.
Good luck!

Agreed! You have to find a color that pleases you and perhaps the wife (if you are in possession of one). Make it a good one as you will look at it a lot!

I agree with everything stated above. I can tell you that I wanted to go one of the original colors. Since we have a red one (my brothers) and a blue one (my brother-in-laws), I selected black with dark charcoal stripes. I could not imagine having a cobra that was not black. If I had it to do over, I would probably choose a different color. Love my black car but it does show dirt and scatches extremely well. Very difficult to keep clean but very cool to look at.

Black cars are not a hobby; they are a career.

100% agree on the black car career.

My last 3 cars have been black. At least you can tell when they need washing!

Which is all the time!

To me this is like posting pictures of 20 women and asking which one should I marry.

The color of your Cobra has to be a color that pleases you, not someone else.

Mine is yellow with black stripes. Most don't like it. It's not original. But I like it, and that's all that matters to me. I will pay a price when it's time to sell it, but I knew that going in and I can live with it.

Good luck on your choice.

I feel better now!!! I'm not the only one that can't decide. That probably doesn't help you at all....however, I originally wanted silver, because 18 years ago, no one had silver, or very few were out there. Blue was everywhere.
I was thinking silver because it was different. Now 2012, silver is every where as much as blue for example, why? not sure except there's a gazillion more cobras out there today compared to 18 years ago.
So...to be different does'nt apply anymore ( in stock or vintage correct colors so to speak) because they are everywhere.
Now I'm actually considering going with blue. The first cobra car I fell in love with was an ERA, midnight blue, pure white stripes, black roll bar and side pipes, it was stunning but everyone had blue. 18 yrs later, who cares what everyone else has, I really like the blue.
My only hesitation is my Dad wants it silver. I have about 3 months before I have to decide.
Wow, this probably confused you more, sorry.

Painting my 427 Cobra

My first cobra I built was Blue/white stripes then a light blue cobra with orange stripes (Gulf oil) racer. This car is going to be dark BRG which is heading towards black and will show the dirt and marks more than a light color. There is something about a wolf in sheeps clothing if you can call a cobra that as I want to downplay the race type engine etc with straight old classic color.

Light colors handle sun better, I did think of white with blue stripes which would be the only light color I would contemplate....

Get Ivy Green. Perfect color and hides dirt. Richness
No Stripes, Decals or extra fluff. The stealthier you can make it the better.

I went with bad-ass black. Looks dripping wet when detailed. A tad dusty otherwise. I keep it covered in the garage---otherwise I'd go nutz cleaning it all the time.

Black is beautiful, baby!

Cobra Color

When I decided to build a Cobra I wanted yellow, but I wanted a bright yellow. It took nearly two years to find the correct yellow.

My wife hates yellow and wanted me to paint it red. I looked at a lot of reds. Lots, but could not paint my car red. She hated the Cobra so the color did not make her hate it any more. So I painted it Yellow.

I like the basic colors on Cobras, white, black, yellow, red, blue, green, silver, etc. With or without stripes.

I don't like the chrome mystic, multi-color colors. They are not Cobra Colors.
but that just me.

SilverBack, the first Cobra was painted yellow! ugly yellow, but yellow.

I'm going through the same thing right now. I went to the paint store today with my wife to get her opinion on the colors I have narrowed it down to. I would suggest you decide on the basic color first, then develop a list of that basic color that have potential. At first I was going to paint it something other than blue but that's always been my favorite, and I just kept going back to it, so I gave in. A friend suggested not to rely on pictures on the Internet, they are not the same in real life. Man was he right.

If you are interested in Blues these are the colors I have narrowed it down to for me.
2007 Toyota Tundra Blue Streak Metallic code 8T7
2011 Mazda Sky Blue Mica code 41B
1997 Dodge Viper GTS Codes PBE and SBE one is lighter
2006 Dodge Nitro Electric Blue code PB5
unk year BMW X5 Lemans Blue code 381
2007 Pont. GTO Impulse Metallic code WA938J

This is tuff!
Good luck.

This was one of the hardest decisions with our car.It came in a beautiful white gel coat, the more we thought about it the more focused on the lines of the car.As it turned out with the polished aluminum wheels and all the aluminum everywhere else white seemed to do it all.We had posted dozens of pictures of Cobras in all different colors all around the shop for inspiration. Good Luck

Only two choices.
First one: 1967 night mist blue.
Second one: Whimbledon white. < stripes.

D&M2 02-05-2012 06:33 AM

I have been wrestling with the color choice basically since I started on the build years ago now. However, I really like two colors, really dark blue with white stripes or candy brandy wine with silver strips. I have a feeling that the final choice wont be made until the day I drop it off for paint.
