Windshield washer. Would you install one???

Looking for advice on if it's worth the effort to install a windshield/windscreen washer pump.

I'm thinking it's not worth it. I hardly use the one on my everyday car. But what are you guys/gals doing?

I didn't even install the one that came with my car.

LMH 02-18-2012 07:16 PM

I would but only if it were one like an original car had. As far as use, I doubt many of us would ever ues it.

Mine came with one and I removed it.

33,500 plus miles on my Cobra and maybe a couple of thousand on other Cobras. 9 trips to the London Cobra Show, last time 310 miles of rain on the trip home. That beats the old record of 70 miles.

NO, you do not need it. You can clean your windshield with a mixture of 1/3 distilled water, 1/3 alcohol and 1/3 white vinegar. Then wash with alcohol, let dry. Apply RainX per their instructions. Be sure to buff with clean cotton rag. Wait and re-apply. Do both sides of the windshield.

You don't need wipers in the rain but they help if it's a heavy rain.

Bugs are easy to clean off but it takes the vinegar to cut dried bug guts.

I certainly wouldn't install one.

SPFs come with windshield washers, when I bought mine it didn't work. It's not worth the time to fix it. I use RainX. Like you want to drive around with wiper tracks on your Cobra? Not a chance. I suppose the wipers are worth keeping, but maybe only because they are required to be legal? I live in Washington where it rains ALL THE TIME and I don't use my wipers....

Washer no. Took the washer bottle out of my SPF.

Seven NO's. That sure answers the question. And a couple less holes to drill too.

I think you'd get quite a bit on your self if you were to use one at highway speeds.

mreid 02-19-2012 12:08 PM

Only if I was aiming the nozzles off to the sides to shoot at annoying people in the next lane or on the sidewalk.

Seriously, no as there is no need.

RedEye 01-18-2013 08:31 PM

Michigan appears to require them on the pre-registration TR-54 report. Anybody have any experience with this, anyone know of a good kit or brand to install?

Got the Bug 01-18-2013 09:46 PM

Mine came with one, but I'm too lazy to take it out. I'd think that you'd probably get more water in the car and in your hair than on the windshield. :)

Dangerous Doug 01-18-2013 09:52 PM

Uh, no. I would not and did not install one.

Mastiff107 01-18-2013 10:57 PM

Mine doesn't have wipers so it would probably be counterproductive.

Luce 01-19-2013 05:44 AM

If you instal it, put the squirters in the rear fenderwell to wet your rear tires for big steamy burnouts.

Huh compulsory req here in the uk , no washer /no wipers/ no car/ the licensing authority would not regester the car, regards Sam

Mother 01-19-2013 12:50 PM

Wipers are required in Ontario Canada. Washer system for windshields are Not required.

emm427 01-19-2013 07:36 PM

Mass. requires them for yearly inspection. The only time they get used...

Jaydee 01-20-2013 02:52 AM

We also need one for rego. I like the bag idea under the dash, and for a squirter I'm thinking of using very thin pipe, sneaking out between the rear bonnet gap. That way, no holes and I can remove it later. I love rainX.
