Rk,

You know I hadn’t noticed that. (Typically, when I see a replica Cobra with an FE I don’t give it a second look).
And while the builder was clearly not as interested in performance as he was in the historical accuracy of his replica, he should be commended for his selection of a part that actually provides the minimum level of safety. Many people are led astray by shameful and deceptive marketing and advertising “hype” when they make purchases. Blissfully unaware of the danger posed by LESSER bellhousings that lack the SFI required fastener configuration…
Thanks for making me aware.

Well, then, I've done my community service work for the month. ;)

Bill, are you comparing your ERA FIA with a mod SB engine to the ERA with a dual-quad standard-bore 427 sideoiler with GENUINE magnesium Halibrand wheels, which I cannot find anywhere? Really? At the same price?

I'll have to disagree with you there, but that is why they make 31 flavors. :)

Which car are you talking about? The ad I read states a lot of things, but the pictures tell a different tale.

This is the one I'm talking about.

Not sure what you're looking at, but it looks pretty good to me. Maybe it's time for a new monitor?

Agreed. Which is precisely why I said one should buy the car for the wheels and swap in a cheaper pair. Easy flip at $58K (if you are local and don't require transportation costs).

Agreed. One picture shows a front wheel with a nice gold patina. All the others have a dark gray Trigo/Vintage look.

If it's too cheap to believe, there might be more to the ad. But at $58K that car appears way too nice and well-taken care of not to be sold yet.

And I will prenup patrickt with the statement, "No, I'm not interested either."

elmariachi 02-28-2012 02:56 PM

If you look closely you'll see that the pic with the gold magnesium patina also shows a different side pipe. The darker wheels appear in the pics with the black pipes (assumedly later given that the primary pics all show black pipes.) Could it be that the owner actually made changes to the car over time? Or am I the only one that does that?

Hell at that price I want it even without wheels.

According to the ad, the stainless steel exhaust headers are included (extra) in the price, which means to me, that the pics with the stainless steel headers were taken some time back. The current pics ought to be the ones with the black pipes.

And as we know, magnesium wheels require maintenance. And I'm sure every magnesium wheel, after polishing, may look a tad different and will not age uniformly.

All this talk of magnesium wheels has brought tears to my eyes.

patrickt 02-28-2012 03:30 PM

Well, I don't know the answer to any of these questions. BUT, if you call Charlie (the owner) at (631) 553-3721 I'm sure he'll be happy to explain it to you (provided you're a serious Cobra type guy though and aren't just wasting his time).

And yes, the car does bear a striking resemblance to ERAChas' car....

Tears like from cutting onions or tears like when your favorite dog died  (I already know the answer.)

I wasn't even looking at the owner's name, but isn't "Chas" a potential nickname for someone named Charlie?

Embellish with one item, the rest then become suspect. While it looks nice, looks can be deceiving. I'll stand by my original post above based on things I see in his advertisement vs what is written in his advertisement and leave it at that. If you are truly interested in the car, ask to see ALL of his documentation you can then decide on your own as to whether to spend the money or not for it.

Every word of the posting is as true as the day is long. Have no fear about that.... And the buyer will have some hefty shoes to fill.:(

Sometimes you can underestimate those around you.
Two plus decades of build, rebuild and makeovers with the same car produces different appearances at different stages of development.
It also produces every bill, receipt, dyno sheet, decibel test, time slip, spec sheet and photo reference discs. This wasn't a flip I bought eight months ago. It's my term paper. The open header shot was taken in '05. They were black coated in '06. With 19,000 total miles I can show you a picture that's a different color and with a mild 428 and bolt on wheels. That's how it started out-on a shoestring. No mysteries to foist on the unsuspecting.
I didn't have to lower/raise and jockey the price for months either. Didn't have to make a 'Help me sell my turd' post'.
I have found three persons in less than one week who have no doubts about my veracity. One is coming with a trailer very soon. He seems thrilled to get all the 'proof' and the original build manual too.
How many of those did you give your buyers?

ACademic 02-28-2012 04:24 PM

ERA Chas just said "Bazinga" to everyone. He wins.

Congrats on the sale and you built one mighty fine ERA. I hope you live to see many more.

Very nice car. Appears I may have acted too slowly. :-( Wait for the next one to come along.

Thanks and thanks to those who expressed kind words.
I'd rather live to see Scarlett Johansson but she stopped calling for some reason........
