BENICIA -- An Alameda man died Saturday when he crashed his vehicle into a building during a photo shoot for a company that sells classic cars, police said.

Authorities on Monday identified the victim as 57-year-old Paul Peterson.

Police said he was driving the vehicle, identified as a special construction AC Cobra, about 5 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into a building in the 5000 block of Gateway Plaza Drive in the city's industrial park area.

A news release said the man was driving recklessly and was speeding when he lost control and hit a concrete Dumpster enclosure at the rear of the building. It appeared he was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

The force of the impact resulted in Peterson striking his head on a cement wall. The vehicle sustained major damage.

Peterson was driving the AC Cobra for a photo shoot at Special Sales Classics located at 5302 Gateway Plaza Drive. He is an employee of the company, and did not own the vehicle.

He was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died a few hours later, police said.

The accident is under investigation, but drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor, police added.
