Default Routing oil cooler lines

I always label my parts, but after spending 7 frustrating hours in my 98 degree garage I slipped up. I have 2 connections on my 351W engine block. 1 goes straight to the oil cooler, the other returns from the cooler, through the oil filter housing and back to the block. Now I have to reconnect them. Does the orientation matter or is it just a circulating system. I know this is hard to visualize. Simply put, can I connect the braided lines to either of the outlets from the block?

It's not that hard to figure out. The port that feeds the fitting that connects the adapter to the block is the return line. The line from the cooler goes there.

Note that the oil flow through the filter must be from the outside to the center. If the lines are routed incorrectly, you will have severely restricted oil flow.

And a blown engine.

I have 2 lines. One from the block to the cooler and 1 from the cooler that continues to the filter then to the block. I have 2 ports on the block, one a little higher than the other. Which line goes to/from which block port?

Assuming there is no oil thermostat:
The flow should go from the off-center hole in the block adapter - to the filter - to the oil cooler - to the center hole in the block adpter.

If there is no remote filter the 2 hoses coming from the filter adapter on the block can attach to either side of the cooler.

Pull the coil wire off and crank the engine (just a little); one hose will squirt, one won't. That should answer your question.
