Angry California gas prices

California gas prices hit $5.00 a gallon, all time high, I feel for the Cobra drivers with gas sucking big blocks, will it ever end...

Seeing almost $5.60 a gl this morning during a little sprint through the mountains just east of San Diego. Shouldn't be surprised, this state bends us over on everything we do!!!! All I can say is BOHICA!!!!!!!

Next time we go to the pump we'll feel like a Stary Eyed, blond that just stepped off the bus in Hollywood, hoping for her big break in movies.

You gotta ask why gas prices (and prices for almost everything else) is so much higher in CA than almost anywhere else? Well, IMO, it's your own fault. It's mostly due to gov't regulations on almost everything. And the requirement for winter fuel. All that was done by politicians. The same politicians that get re-elected term after term after term.

If you want things to change in CA, you need to hire different politicians. No, this isn't an Us vs. Them post. Or a D vs. R post. It's more of a dumb voter post. Those politicians were hired to do a job. If you don't like the job they're doing, get rid of them and hire some one else.

I came to the conclusion years ago that as a group of voters, we're a bunch of morons.

We all know what the problems are in this country CA is not alone. The problem is truly knowing what a politician is going to do once elected. The "Good Old Boy's" are a strong force to reckon with.
Most of us all know how a political hopeful will spout off about what the problems are and how he or she promises to change it if elected.Right!!! we keep hearing the same promises year after year.

Spot on. Political bent aside, the main reason for the sudden spike is the change over to winter formulations and the self-created shortage they make so they won't be stuck with a bunch of gas of the wrong formula.

Speaking of which, see here:

That same topic contains a very good analysis of the localized formulation issue by Chip Beck.

Still these prices are low to us in europe, sure there's some differences but... I just calculated our (Finland) current mean price on 95 octane E10 of 1.713€/liter to USD 8,429/gallon! Currently Finland has the 12th highest gas price, according to World petrol prices, gas prices, diesel prices 2012| MyTravelCost.com

If you maintain highway, 30 is realistic.

Here's a log, mostly 20s, but an aftermarket tune and 3.91 rear ratio (and things like the Rocky Mountains to drive over):

I would be willing to bet the highway mpg was achieved at 80+ MPH

What gets me is the amount of brand new Hummers, big gas hogging SUVs, and big 4 wheel drive pickups that I am seeing on the roads up here all brand new. And I have also seen some of them setting in front of houses that have been repossessed and are for sale. I guess they figured if they were losing the house they may as well get what they want. One man I know bought a big 4 wheel drive pick up with every option available and he said he can afford to drive it once a week for about 50 miles. And several I have talked to about the new vehicles have told me they don't know how they are going to make the payments on them. Really intelligent to go spend that money on a gas hogging vehicle that will never be driven off road except in their graveled driveways.

Not to go all political, but I will!!! You can't have it both way's!! You can't say that ObamaCare is going to bankrupt the country and that free market should always set the price and then complain about the way the free market sets the gas/fuel price!! The president has almost no control on the world wide oil price unless he would open the strategic reserves and flood the market and drive the price of gas down. But then you would call that ObamaGas and claim it was the end of capitalism and the free world.

To some extent it is political. I realize Obama has little directly to control the cost of gasoline, but he should not have been slammin Bush about the price of gas during his administration and Bush looking out for his buddies in Big Oil. Don't make the accusation, and hide form the same argument when the shoe is on Obama's foot. Secondly, the liberals fight tooth and nail to prevent any further construction of refineries. There are only a so many, and none have been constructed in many years. Things can be done politically, but it is not the political correct thing to do in the current leftist agenda. JMHO!!

As far as the Obama care goes in this argument, it the President limited the number of companies that provide insurance, think that might have an impact on the price, if only a few were controlling the distribution of the product. After all they are going to decide who when and what time the care will be limited, by the government stepping in a deciding. Don't sound like free enterprise to me

If as a cobra owner, you are worried about gas prices, you are in the wrong hobby.

When I got into the hobbie gas was $1.67 gallon, I would not want to pay $4,000 for tires if they increased the way gas has, it's the point we're getting screwed...
