Any kits out there that cater to plus sizes
I have a buddy that has always wanted a Cobra but is convinced there is no way he could ever fit in one. Now that said my Dad fits just fine in our Johnex.
But he is only 6'2 250 My friend is 6'8 is it going to be possible even with a lil extra fab work. |
Maybe Lone Star Classic or Pacific Roadster.
|
Maybe the West Coast Cobra. They are a little wider and longer

Do a search... plenty of posts on this subject. There is a guy that is over 7 feet tall in a Unique Motorcars 289 FIA car.

Hi there Cluut gt:
I am 6'1" and my son is 6'4" 250 and 300 respectively, I have a West Cost Cobra and we fit inside fine with room to spare. These car are built 4" wider and 6" longer, the configuration of the seat is very much like a vette and there is enough room for long lengs like ours. If you are interested, ther is one being advertise in Cobra Country, send me a PM and I will give you the link. ALso If you decide for a new one I suggest you to go to a builder and dealer and not the website of the original owner, reasons I will provide in the PM message. Here is a picture of my car. Small car for large guys
Lawrence build his FFR to accommodate his 6' 4"(6' 5") 280 lb self. Placement of the seat, steering wheel and pedals are important. Sometimes you can move the tunnel over an inch or so to help with the pedal spread. Big guys and big shoes.
The length of your legs are a huge issue. Tall guys with short leg will fit into a Cobra a lot easier than long legged guys. Last summer Lawrence check out a B&B for size and he fit. Lawrence tried on Coach's Coupe for size but we had a very hard time getting him out. Almost called the fire dept. Now Lawrence is building a B&B Coupe to fit him. I have a Lone Star. They are 4" longer in the cockpit. Doors are 4" longer. A lot of long wheel base Cobras do not put the extra inches in the cockpit, so don't look at wheel base as the deciding factor. oh yes, a Cobra with an auto trannie is a lot easier for the big guy.

You also might check out McGill Manufacturing, Fiberglass 34 Coupes and Cobras by McGill Manufacturing He does excellent metal work and has new molds. He also just started dropping his frame in the seating area for taller drivers.

I am not sure what your budget is but almost any brand of Cobra can be altered to fit any size person. I have seen some of the Kirkhams that have really been altered bot big and tall people as well as other lower priced ones. So your buddy won't have a hard time finding one that can be made to fit him comfortably.

My Shelby car fit me just fine. 6'1 at 240#, longer torso than legs. The SPF steering wheel hit me on the lap.
No matter what you look for or get, do not buy one until you sit in it. You do not get in a Cobra, you put it on. It's like buying a pair of jeans - some need a S, M L, XL, or XXL and you need to try it on! |
Midstates made a big boy kit. Looked at one before I purchased my SPF. Plenty of room in that car and you also sat lower. I think that same car may still be available, only downside was the 427 Nasacar Tunnel port engine. 13.1 compression.

buy one with a perimeter frame, not a tube frame. That will give you 3 or 4" more "headroom" as you will sit flat on the floorboards rather than on top of the 4" tube. I look through my windshield, my head is below the rollbar, and I'm 6'7".
