Hope the link works, if not Google it if it sounds interesting. A few fun tidbits in the article.

Please note, I'm a reader only and have no dog in this fight, or whatever it may become.

Like the exact numbers that dealers are charged for their cars? Yes indeed, everyone likes reading hard numbers. Especially RodKnock. Personally, I love a good lawsuit -- it's just sport, you know....

Not worth the hassle for those commission levels. Not for the effort required .

Well, all those expensive lawyers Shelby has on retainer have to be paid somehow. It seems overhead is getting ahead of income again with Shelby. Maybe they should bring somebody in who knows how to run a company efficiently and for profit?

All in all, nothing really new here.....

Anyone can sue for anything . That's the easy part. The facts will determine the outcome. Our opinions and speculation don't detrmime anything or add anything constructive.

An observation of interest though is that Planet Cobra has a full page add in the current Shelby magazine touting that they a leading authorized Shelby dealer.

Make of that what you will.

My point is that it is unfair to draw conclusions either way based on mere pleadings.

I have to agree with REAL1 on this one.

Dealer price is $41,200 for a fiberglass CSX Cobra?

A couple of interesting notes here.

How the heck are they calculating margins? If the dealer sells a Fiberglass Cobra for $59,9XX now or in the "old" days for $49,9XX and the dealer cost quoted in the article is $41,200, that ain't no 12% margins. But I'm no mathematician.

And the article states that Shelby's are "official reproductions of the originals.":p**)

REAL 1 01-06-2013 07:49 AM

What's an "official" reproduction of the original? Shelby gave himself permission to make Shelby Cobras again?

The article may have miss information as to margins? No, really? Lol.

This underscores my point. Can't decide the case based on articles.

You make a good point. For example, if da Vinci had decided to paint several more Mona Lisas late in his career just to earn a few bucks, they would have still been original Mona Lisas by da Vinci, just like the first one only with better paints and canvas. Some people just don't get it. ;)

A car is the sum of its parts, and csx figures into that. When I was younger and was building my Bennett car I wanted to make it as (authentic) as possible. Real Smith gauges, the right steering wheel, seats with the right suspension, side pipes with the correct turns where they attach to main pipe, not prefab collector, the roll bar showing behind the seat, English handles, latches, windshield , lights , I have to thank Ron Butler for those finishing pieces and so forth. I laugh now because you open the hood and yes there is a real MR side oiler in there with the correct top loader but there is no main frame rails just small tubing, the engine is set way back and the push rod suspension shows. In back you can see the sheet metal 9" ford Independent rear end. I guess I just got confused. The Bennett car is what it is and CSX cars are what they are. You have to decide what floats your boat and do your best to fulfill your dream. Everyone s dream is different, do what moves you and have fun. If you want Shelbys deal you will have to deal with Shelby American and The dealer network along with the price.

Don't kid yourself. The profit isn't in the roller, it is the $650 they want to charge for a glovebox and 1200 for stripes. Also profit is selling motor and trans combo and the $10-20k they charge for install to fully completed car. I would guess the final out the door profit margins are 20%-30%

REAL 1 01-06-2013 07:29 PM

Nothing wrong with profit or making as much of it as you can. The market will determine the correct amount of profit justified.

We all look to make as much profit as the market will bare. Nothing wrong with SAI and dealers doing the same.

Bartruff1 01-06-2013 08:23 PM

The name is worth millions...millions...

I am sure they don't need my advice, and so I will give it...

They are pissing away any oportunity to make any money by developing way and I mean way to many models....

The developement and construction costs for so many models are wasted... they should concentrate on those models that made Shelby a world brand.. make one or maybe two Cobras and one or two Mustangs and quit screwing around with so many models and variations that just canabilize sales...

Focus on quality, dealer relations and timely delivery....or someone will buy the name and make a bundle.

csx4910 01-06-2013 09:31 PM

Real one,
I don't disagree at all. I own 3businesses and without capitalism this country will continue going down the tubes even further. My point is I don't have too much sympathy for cobra dealers that claim they are only making 10% on the roller when we know they make much more on the other items. I just wish people would tell the whole truth
Ron

Of course, unless said company receives government subsides and/or has a monopoly. But that's a different thread in some political forum.
