Value?
photo 1 (3) | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
photo 2 (4) | Flickr - Photo Sharing! photo 2 (4) | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Im not to sure if this is an appropriate question for a public forum... I've cleaned on the car for 20+ hrs., the car has exhaust leaks at headers, leaks no oil “knock on wood” the carb is loading up. Other than that I give the car a high 80’s grade. ERA 193 I have bought and traded a few old cars but never a kit. I was told by the previous owner that it was a 427, but I cant tell.. at this point it does have I believe 66 428 heads. There's only one thing I love more than driving cars “when it come to cars mind you” and that is to sale a car make a little and see a happy person ride away. I'm a horse trader. The question is “in theory what is the fair market value of this car?” I know that a hard question without seeing the car etc.... I just trying to get some input on deal no deal..Thanks |
What rear suspension does it have? ERA offers two.
Also what transmission is it using? You will need to establish what engine is really in it. Most buyers are going to want to know. Larry |
Larry,
salisbury rear. inboard breaks.. ford top loader 4 speed trans.. best I can tell without pulling the heads and mesureing the bore. it is a 352 cast block, the stroke is from the best of my knowlage is 4" There is a date code of rl27 or al27 and also dif the casting plant.. There are no other cast numbers or stamps. My best guess is a 428. Help here is needed. My stroke mesurement could be off it "could be a 427"?? |
Does it have crossbolts just above the oil pan?
should look like this.... http://image.mustangandfords.com/f/2...ross_bolts.jpg |
Yeah, look for the cross bolts on the block. It probably doesn't have them but maybe.
ERA is a high end replica, so you have that going for you. The rear suspension is the standard unit, not the optional one. So lets see what we can come up with for engine. Larry |
I will look again, but I am 90% sure no on the cross bolts.
|
i thought the cross bolts only indicated that it was a Side Oiler. It can still be a 427 FE block without the side bolts, just not a side oiler
|
Top / Center oilers have them too.

Reading online, I read that a date code is cast in the block on the bottom, drivers side front ahead of the oil pan. Sounds a little funny to me but maybe a place to check.
I think it should be a C or D followed by a number. Keep in mind that men have given their lives trying figure out FE block numbers! Larry |

I believe all 427's were cross bolted, and also some (if not all) 406's.
Could be wrong though, lots of strangeness seems to abound with the FE series engines. |
Ill check the date again but i believe it is "al27" more than likely the a is a 4 makeing it 4l27 which would be 1964 dec 27??
Anyway it is a fe BB.. if I pull it i will mesure the cylender bore etc.. which wont be to soon the motor seems to be in great shape.. and is very strong for such a light car! .. let it be known I have a thing for pulling motors like most owners I wont to know! Would you guys think 28 is about right on price? And thanks! |
It is likely worth more than $28k. ERAs rarely sell for less than $40k. The engine is a very important factor in pricing. I would say a 427 center oiler is worth $5k more than another FE and a 427 side oiler is worth another $5k more.
Post more pictures and let the ERA experts chime in. ERA did not offer the optional rear diff when your car was built. Some important options are 6 pin wheels, Smith's gauges and big front brakes. You may want to call ERA and determine if your car was factory built or a kit and they could also tell you what options came with it. They will also give you access to some special owner information. I had ERA 178. Your car is from the mid 80's. John |
Yeah, $28,000 is too cheap. More like $45,000 plus depending on some variables
like engine, paint, brakes etc. Larry |

Will await your detailed response, along with better pictures, and we can go from there. Bill S. Club Cobras very own Cobra Trader |
I will get back to y'all with more pic etc. I believe my Flickr photo stream has a few more pics. I have been battling a broken deep well. Al I'm worried about now is a shower. Bill I payed 28 for the car, and I really like Larry's last post!! The top is good and there is only 2 pieces of the chrome did not polish out beautiful the speedo gage trim and the back left bumper. My studies on the car with these forums and sales listings and other friends the cobra as is should bring 38-45. Maybe more when I done detailing etc. Also I talked to Peter at era and the records for this car are not all there only the original owners name and location and some extra parts that had been purchased. New hood and a few other items. He did not understand why all the files were not there..? I'll try to take more picks in the am. Regards, David

Just keep in mind if you're going to put it up for sale that you can always come down on the price a little but you can't go up when a buyer has made a offer.
Larry |
Bill, I posted more pics to my flicker photo stream... please take alook.
Flickr: Crashlanding75's Photostream Larry, I will take you advice!! Cheers, David |
