This is Pete Brock, right?
What’s he doing “tinkering” with a Lamborghini V12, and in the Lamborghini factory as well ?
Note also the Lamborghini 350GT in the background.
Anybody know the story?



And then there’s this one….
The guy on the right is surely an SA guy, yes?
Ferruccio Lamborghini is in the middle, and that must be Gian Paolo Dallara on the left



If anyone knows what they're doing there ("busman's holiday" perhaps?)...I'm all ears.

I don't about the Pete. but the floors are probably brick or tile.
And love the Webers in between the cams.

Yep, agreed the floor's nice, and the Webers between the cams is an unorthodox design.
What is also unorthodox is Shelby men looking seriously at Lamborghini bits at the factory, and talking to Lamborghini and Dallara!

..Italian car...Italian Engine....Italian Carbs....maybe the SA guys are the only ones who could get them to run right??? <shrug>

Wood floors were often used in machine and fab shops to lessen the wear & tear on the workers feet. You can still find different styles of wood flooring in larger machine factory operations like Pratt & Whitney & GE in the N.E. USA. Wood was also a cheeper product back then. Why the guys are there??

Back about 1980 I was in the old Packard plant in Detroit where they had built the Merlin engines under license during WW II. The floor was hardwood block that was "on end" and about 10" thick. The reason was to dampen the vibrations of the machines and prevent transfer of the noise and vibration. I was told this was "state of the art" then and it still works pretty dang well!

Yep, I worked at Pratt & Whitney out of college in '68. Loved the seasoned wood factory floors. If you dropped a turbine blade, no damage is done.

I worked on the JT9D turbofan which was used in the 747, 45 years ago!

With the way the tall SA guy is rubbing his chin, maybe he's thinking "all aluminium ....light weight .... would it fit?" and "can I get this in with my check-in baggage?"

I wonder if the guy with his hand on his chin might be John Ohlsen, he spent a lot of time in Italy with the coupes & when the FE was being fitted to 2286, & I assume Pete Brock was a frequent visitor, what better to do with a couple of spare hours than check out some then recent developments?

I emailed BRE and a reply came back from Gayle Brock (which she is happy to have posted here) ....
"The photos were taken when Peter was working in Italy in ‘65 with De Tomaso (and Fantuzzi) on the P70, a collaborative project between De Tomaso and Shelby American. Great suggestion by ALF, and nice bit of detective work following up. Wonderful photos by Peter that really capture a moment in time. To get the whole story from the source, all these years later is priceless.
