Standard street 427 gas cap.
427 Street likes this.

Look closely Ned, that's a 289 cap. I just wondered if some of the early 427s used left over 289 caps.

Your eyes may be better than mine ( actually, a good possibility) but it looks just like the cap on my old Cobra (CSX3121).

Default Round Button Cap

That style cap was continued over from the 289 cars up to around big block chassis number 3200, at which point the square release cap started being used. That said, something doesn't look quite right with the cap on 3112, it may be a repro. Mickmate can you comment?

Thanks for the compliments SunDude. You are correct it is the same car. The owner liked it well enough he purchased the "real" thing.

Thanks! That's what I thought but wasn't sure.

It looks like the usual lousy fit in the hole for the button on the cap. Typical of getting eaten in the acid bath before chroming. That's why this fella came up with these Gas Cap Release Button 289 Early 427 Street [289 Early 427 Street Cars] - $44.00 : Acton Custom Enterprises, Custom Metal for Cobras
It looks like the pin for it might be a little big. The Norton Commando is almost correct for later ones. They should have a smooth rectangular button like these.
Street Car Gas/Petrol Cap Street Car Gas/Petrol Cap [Street 427 Comp Dry Sump] - $72.95 : Acton Custom Enterprises, Custom Metal for Cobras
CCX FIA is neat, my friend around the corner has one of the six in a similar color.

Yes that was Johns build-he did a great job. I have spoken and exchanged emails many times with him including a few recent pictures. He put a lot of love into that car and I believe sold it with about 10 miles on it?

Sounds like the timing was not good for you to purchase? It is a monster with 485hp and is my first Cobra.

Default Cap

Cap is correct for street 427. Absolutely detest the black wheels, looks "Mickey Mouse"
427 Street likes this.
