Why is it that so few AC Cobra replica turn key or kit builders ever mention there GVW? I know that with a glass body & heaver duty frames, the replicas produced since the originals are on average 200 to 600 lbs. heaver. I remember that csx 3116 with 427 cid iron block/heads was about 2,350 lbs. Csx 2058 with 260 cid iron block/heads was not quite 2,100lbs. My ERA 427S/C w/427 iron is 2,639 lbs. I know that FFR's tend to be in the low 2,200 lbs. range with a SB. So how fat is a glass/alum. CSX 4000+, a KMC, SPF, Unique, etc. So big block or small block; iron or alum. How fat :eek: are you?? Come on, get on those scales! :LOL:

As soon as I saw this thread title looked down at my beltline ha ha.Had our car scaled a few years back to get a grip on why it handled so poorly.It is a CMC 460 powered car and then had cast iron heads, intake,water pump and flywheel.(now all replaced with aluminum including 9" center section) it then weighed near 3000lb.Now down around 2750. The organic part we don't need to know about.Any frost on the pumpkin this morning Silversmith?

CSX 6022 (glass car) is about 2,600 lbs without me in it. I think there was about 12 gallons of gas in it. My engine was an NOS 427 FE build, iron block, iron MR heads, lemans rods, TRW pistons, etc and is pretty true to what was in the originals. I also have billboards, so tires are bias ply and comparable too. Biggest difference is probably the TKO, which probably adds a few lbs. Lakewood bell might have added a few lbs too (will be changed to a QT shortly).

14 gallons of fuel, 2,370 lbs without me in it. Too much with me in it......

Can't remember if it was Dwight or someone else, but they said the CSXs ran north of 2500lbs. I knew my car was heavy but daaaaaaamn, 2600lbs is w/in 200lbs of my 66 Mustang. The only difference between Doug's set-up and mine are the aluminum heads and QT bell housing, which might save 30-40lbs at best.

I know where I can save about 15lbs, but that would require time in the gym, better diet, and drink lite beer in lieu of the heavier beers..........ain't gonna happen.

2609 with me in it, with 5/8th of a tank of gas. So 2434 without me. It's a backdraft racing with a small block. Still needs to get the corner weights right.

2320 lbs. w/ 1/2 tank of gas, without me, Factory Five complete kit, stock EFI 5.0 engine ,T5 trans, double roll bars, sidepipe shields, 245/315 Nitto 555 tires.

Nice paint job on that K&N top Pat! I may have to do same on mine.:LOL: The 2,600 or so on my ERA was with out me in it & a 1/2 tank of fuel. Over 2,800 with me in it. :( Oh the Shame! But I do love a good Rocky road ice cream after a spirted romp.:eek: At least my balance is 50.7% front & 50.3% rear. Left/right is 50/50 :)

What if, in theory only, you replace the big v8, with a worked, turbocharged rotary engine. Would it outhandle or perform any better?

it may very well.....but i don't think i could set off all the car alarms on my street as i rumble by..:D

I have a light space frame that I built for a Cobra project. It's set up for C5 Corvette suspension, LS engine, and T56 Transmission. I also have a lightweight Cobra body. Based on the weights of similar cars that I have built I think it's possible to finish the Cobra out at around 1850 lbs.

My self built Speedster has a 104.5 inch wheel base. It has a pretty heavy body and weighs, on my race scales, wet, 1980lbs. I have a T bucket inspired body for it. With the Tbucket body it weighs 1840lbs. I can change the body in under an hour.

I just weighed my current project. I built a space frame to which Miata parts bolt to. It has a 95 inch wheelbase and is using a Devin body that I am modifying. It will be under 1500 lbs when completed. The chassis with drive train weighs 1080lbs.

Just finished breakfast. Going to the shop to work on it. Having fun.

I like light cars. I don't know why. Because when I sit my 240lbs down it changes everything!
