I used the Total Seal rings in a air cooled BMW twin motorcycle engine I built for canyon racing back in the early 90s. On the top ring the ends overlapped, the second ring was two piece and installed with the gaps 180* opposed and the oil control ring was of conventional design if I recall correctly. I never experienced any excessive oil consumption issues; that engine saw redline on a regular basis.
