Default Follow up to Battery Shutoff Switch Question

I've been looking at Shutoff Switches and have noticed that some say "with alternator" other say "without alternator". The with seem to have 4 posts and the without have two. So now I'm confused. Which do I need. I thought I was basically just breaking the power from the battery should the need arise. Am I missing something here? I don't race, I have a 351 Windsor with a gear drive starter and the engine does have an alternator. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

GregAg

If the intent is for an emergency cutoff (per some sanctioning bodies) you'll need the "alternator" connections. If the intent is for security and stopping any possible battery drain when parked, a simple battery disconnect will suffice.

I have to ask Greg, what did Bill have to say that had you change the starter to a gear drive? Did the starter go out? It worked well before I sold I sold you the CR.

Terry

No, the starter was just fine. The oil pan hung down below the frame cross member and was the lowest thing under the car. I was worried about damaging it going over a speed bump or something so we changed the pan to a low profile. Of course when we did that the old starter wouldn't fit thus the change. The gear drive fit. As simple as that. And of course the rule that once you start a project you create a whole new set of problems lol
By the way, slowly but surely I'm getting a few things done that I wanted to change. I'm getting close to the end of my wish list. Just want to let you know I love the car. It's fun to drive, I love everything about it. Just making changes to fit my likes. No offense intended though I'm sure none was taken Just wanted to let you know.

Ok just wondering.

I have to admit that (at first) all of the items that you are changing had a big question mark in my mind. But as the saying goes "make it yours". I am glad you are enjoying it. That is what they are for.

I would like to see it when you are done though. Wait a minuite, they are never done. Ok I would like to see it sometime in the future.
