Put a test light or voltmeter to the coil and see if you have juice with the ignition on.

I pulled a bone head move several weeks ago . I go ton my Cobra to impress my grand son. It launched great and thank god it fell on it's face and I tried to limp it home keeping it barely running around the block. I didn't make it died. I had to have it towed home. The garage is a mess. Lots of projects covering the workbench. My priorities are to get several things done first. I suspected fuel levels in the carbs, Fouling plugs due to hitting the rev limiter on cold plugs. Now I'd bet I had challenged the Distributer drive gear pin again due to cold oil and high revs. It would explain everything.
What I need is the length of the pin in a FE distributer drive gear.. Previously I had a spring pin which sheared years ago. I replaced it with a true roll pin from MSD. That was 15 years ago. My local Shucks has MSD stuff on it's display. What length or part number am I looking for?
I had talked to a Mopar guy at a party who said Melling oil pumps have given him grief by having the relief stick open. That is the brand of oil pump I'm using. Any body had problems with Melling oil pumps?

i would suggest finding the problem before buying parts on a guess

What happened to Me
On easter weekend I was to pull the car out of the garage so as to access the attic stairway. to put my hospital equipment back up and away. I let the car sit and went about removing two tree stumps on my patio . I did get to the car and I had the fuel bowl sight plugs out for months I REMOVED THE SPARK PLUGS, THEY WERE ALL BLACK. Then I removed the distributor thinking I had maybe only partially sheared the distributor drive pin. I wiped the oil away and blew the oil out of the pin center ans saw light coming through the hole. Pin is OK.. that is where I started a mesas. Back then I thought I had installed the drive gear 180° out. I'll tell you now the hole holding the distributor shaft and drive gear is off center and angled downward. The drive gear will only fit on the shaft one way and have the pin hole align all the way through.
When the distributor was reinstalled there was no pop, bang, or backfires. The electric fuel pump was running. There was no pressure showing on indicator gauge. I poured in five gallons of gas in the fuel tank. the pumps were now were a different sound. I was out of Gas. I managed to waist most of the summer again. 20 gallon of gas ,engine runs great.
I still want to hear what your problem turned out to be.
