Default Chasing Classic Cars "barn find or bust"?

Tonight on Velocity - this is a new episode? A real 427 barn find? I thought we would have heard about it here already.

Chasing Classic Cars TV Schedule : Velocity

Quote:
Wayne is over the moon when he uncovers a perfectly preserved 1963 street legal 427 Cobra in a barn. Before selling the car Wayne and Roger get it running and then Wayne takes it for a very special last hurrah.
1963? Didn't the 427s start in 1965... hmmm

High-end attached warehouse if you ask me. The car looks like Peter Portante's old street Cobra. Shots alternately show red MSD plug wires, then yellow Moroso wires and anodized fuel line fittings. Couldn't have been in the 'barn' for too long. Nice Cobra though...

Wayne kept calling the "sunbursts", "starbursts" but a nice street car with patina. Shame about the sidepipes though.

Still, all-in-all CCC is probably the most realistic of any of the "car" shows on TV. While the timeline is compressed, they don't pretend to do a total resto in 7 days or some of the other crap that is seen on "reality" shows. Crap like "Gas Monkey", "Counting Cars", "Overhaulin'", etc. makes people believe they can buy, restore and flip cars in a weekend. oh, and always make 10 grand doing it! "I can buy this car for $2500, spend $200 and sell it for 20K!"

Rick, you should try watching The History Channel's Restoration Garage. It's filmed at David Grainger's Guild of Automotive Restorers in Bradford, Ontario, north of Toronto. No 7-day builds and/or $5K budgets here.

Will have to find it. I have seen the "Guild" advertising for many years and know they do quality work.

There are two videos of the Cobra at the link below. The first one of him "finding" the car in the barn (not sure you can call that a barn) and the second a test drive.

That was about the eleventh show of that series, where all they had to do to resuscitate an old car...was to have that old geezer "rebuild the carbs."

As if by magic, then, they all start and drive like the day they came out the dealer.

RodKnock, D111 and 427 Street like this.

I have always been bothered by how dirty and disorganized his shop is. They work on engines in the worst conditions you can imagine and the restoration work looks like it would be good for about six months before flaws would begin to show. He is a very good salesman with an excellent client list but the cars seem to be done at a level below other restorers whose work I have seen.

I love Fast 'N Loud. Those guys are entertaining. BTW, they lose $ on several of their projects and seem to be ok shrugging it off over a beer. And their "wins" are usually $700 after parts but not including labor. It's good these two landed a TV show because they aren't making a living on the cars.

From what I understand, Richard made millions when he sold his printing/advertising business, so I don't think he's hurting for money.

Does anyone know the chassis number of this particular "barn find" Cobra?

Someone edumacate me here. I thought all the "real" cobras had the counterclockwise speedo. That car had the standard clockwise speedo.
They were certainly cagey on who, where, and how much
Nice car though. I'll take it

Only the Comp cars and the "S/C" models had the reverse wind speedo. Standard street cars have a normal speedometer and it is mounted to the right of the steering column with the tach mounted to the left and down slightly.

Not really Notice your picture is of a street dash and the car has a reverse wind speedometer. Many street cars in the 32xx & 33xx also have the reverse speedo.

I will have to look for that channel. I usually watch a lot of history but looking at the Velocity site there's a few shows I would like to watch.

Many times it's the seller that does not even want the location mentioned. Funny watching that with the carriages and all, had to take a second look to make sure it wasn't my grandfathers place.

Street 7's could have 180 CCW or the 160 CW speedos. Did you notice where he was looking for the CSX#, I have a funny story about that. It is one of the few I've seen with the correct rear view mirror mounted the right way round. Drop the sidepipes and she's a beauty.

Nic,
My speedo is CW and goes to 180, I believe that it can be pegged with the new
8500 red line.
