Well, that's kind of sad. How many have had a MSD box in their car? My Cobra came with one. I put one in my old Chevy just when electronic ignitions were catching on.

Chapter 11 is a reorganization....not an end of business, which is Chapter 7.

There's an interesting article in this month's Hot Rod magazine, involving counterfeit performance parts . MSD boxes are apparently often counterfeited. Fake parts hurt the reputation of the manufacturers in a real way. Recommended reading.

Fake parts hurt everyone. But most are to short sighted to see how.

Does MSD make the copy-cat self labeled brands that Summit Racing, Jegs, and others sell?

From all of the MSD distributor, coil and CD box failures I read about this would not appear to be a huge loss. The allure of using MSD components escapes me.

I have posted before about my past issues with my MSD setups and failures. Pertronix now and never looked back. My MSD dizzy and box are stored right next to my set of BFG T/A radials in the pile of "lessons learned"

My first MSD lasted about 8 years and my second is working on its 4th year. No complaints from me. Now, BFG Radial T/A are another story...still have a set too.

Internet searches for MSD yield a lot of stories ranging from problematic to complete success and everything in between. There are also threads trashing Pertronix as well, so no clear winner.
As for the bankruptcy, many companies have emerged from Chapter 11 successfully and became better and stronger than before. Being optimistic, it is possible that this is good for MSD.

Many companies restructure so that they can be sold. MSD is not going away anytime soon. And, yes, a good read on the Hot Rod Magazine story on copycat products.

Pertronix has been great for me (ERA Cobra and the MG TD I used to own). Never even needed to consider MSD.

Never had any problems with MSD products, they will be OKAY with a new reorganization, too much debt.
Good Luck!

Probably too much debt from all the warranty claims they had to honor.

Anyone unhappy with TAs didn't get their roller with Hoosier street tires. They leaked air through the sidewalls/a tire that isn't airproof?

I'm honestly not surprised. Consider most of us have phones that do more complex processes at maybe 1/8 the size. Was there any real reasons for that massive old red box when most computer companies can do things far more complex and soo much smaller.
