Yeah, tried it twice and it did not work. Second picture shows not a happy camper...

Tonight I cut some vinyl letters to see about the size. I think 2.1 inch is just right. The stencil is much more accurate then the single letters applied by eyeball hehe.

I was just talking to a Cobra buddy about this.
I haven't painted my Avons yet (with "Avon", hehe) but when I do, I fully expect them to yellow like Al Capone's teeth. Avons feels very oily to me.
You should see how they stained my epoxy floor!!! Not surprised the paint peeled. I don't mind the yellowing but the peeling would bug me.
It is funny you said this. When I was over in Germany and wanted Avons CRZZ's , I had to reach back to the states to get them. They were not alllowed to be sold in Germany because they were considered a "dirty oil tire" by the German Avon distributor and I guess therefore unclean for use on Germany roads. If any body has anything to add to the chemistry of tires in this regard, but not to hijack this thread.

geeky tyre ( tire ) info - Looks like this stems from 2010. --

I am sure you could privately import some and nobody would care... unless there is a marking for EU approved tyres, that might show up on a TuV inspection ...

Well, one Cigarette (1) produces 44 X (!!) more of that oil than one (1) tire over the whole life.

So, one guy smokes 10 cigarettes in one day - just one day, that equalizes to 110 care driving 2.75 million miles.

Just make the owners buy new tires because they have "illegally" tires, which are toxic (44x less than 1 cigarette) and need to be off the road.

That visibly stinks, creating regulations for political and profit reasons.

Why not purchase the correct GOODYEAR billboards in the first place rather than trying to make your tires into something they are not?

They get flat spots, they rot and brake, they are not DOT approved, there are no warranty on that tires, they are bad in the rain, they trow stones....

Reason enough (?) - at least for me......

They just look good.

I have had them on my car for 8 years! You just have to maintain them.

GPete: I started to notice some small cracking around the edges of my BB the other day. Tires are 6.5 years old.

Will replace with Avons in the spring.

Can you PM the info on how you did your Avons with the vinyl lettering. Are they vinyl or spray on lettering? It looks great!!!

Do you have the stencils????

thanks.

Just saw your post and PM. The vinyl lettering is just a temporary to see about the size and looks.
Yes, I have the stencils and I ordered more material to cut some.

However, as I mentioned before I ordered also rubber lettering. I expect them this week. They could use my files and cut them exactly like in the picture.

They state the lettering will outlast the life of the tire and will not fade or discolor.

Pretty easy choice between the stencil spray on or the lettering -- at least in my book.

Stay tuned....

Hi all -

First time poster. Just picked up my car in April, been working on customizing it since. When I bought it, had a beautiful set of Mickey Thompson's, and although I loved the Good Year billboard look I couldn't justify throwing away a perfectly good set of tires. I also couldn't bring myself to paint Good Year on MTs. I came up with a solution that works for me: the look true to the brand of tire. I figure anyone that would notice a difference would find is amusing.

I used Ranger Paint but still having flaking issues from sidewall flex. Used a spray gun with a single thick coat. I think that might've been the issue.

The package came yesterday and it exceeded my expectations. I followed the simple instructions and the result is phenomenal (very rare I use big words like that).

The letters are 0.066 inch thick and they nicely stand out.

With a new blade in the box cutter the removing of the raised letters is easy and fast.

A thin film of CA (Cyanoacrylate) or Super Glue, Crazy Glue whatever you want to name it - it is plenty provided - on the letter and then place it where you want hold it for a moment and press firmly...done.

The surface prep is simple, just wipe the tire with carb cleaner or a good degreaser.

The letters have a protective film on them, after you are finished you peel the film off and voila...

Landis, you can remove the paint and put these raised letters on Mickey Thomson M/T. They will custom cut that for you.

Anyhow, here is the website:

Permanent Raised White Letter Tires in Minutes

I try to get an group discount if I can get enough interest here - but before all that I had to try out that product. They provided some extra samples witch I tried on the spare tire. I could not rip the sample off the tire with a pair of pliers...I'm good with it and put it on my $2k tires....

gotta say, those dont look too bad- I guess you could scuff them up a bit if you wanted the more authentic billboard look.
