Wheel finish on this car?

Hi all. This pic was posted some time back of a CSX? at the Simeone Museum:

Can anyone speculate what the finish is on the Sunburst wheels. They really POP!

My wheels have been lightly sandblasted and are a dull grey:

I would love that bright finish.

Is it a different blast media? Some sort of processed finish (Diamond Brite), or were they polished?

Anyone know this car and it's owner so I can ask?

Cheers
Greg

Steve's car, wheels have been polished.

Thanks Nick. You've always got the info.

Complicated wheels and quite a rough cast finish. Must have cost a fortune to polish!

It has had a couple of tins of elbow grease liberally applied.

Passengers love to rest their arms on the door...!
I'm glad the paint on my car isn't show quality, so I never have to worry about zips and buttons on the top surface of the door.

Someone had a lot of time on their hands

It really isn't as bad as it looks. I would guess about $250 each to have those polished. I had some hurricane style wheels polished a while back. The guy had them blasted with some type of media, then started with 240 grit and worked his way down. I paid $200 each a few years ago.

Actually with the right tools and the setup to do it comfortably polishing metal is a very rewarding job. Especially once the polished parts are back where they belong.
Without the proper tools and equipment it gets frustrating very quickly.
Using air tools the most important machine is the air compressor outfitted with air dryers and regulators.

Yup. Luv'em polished.

Might be heresy, but I might do it this winter.

Beautiful car and great picture Nick. Do you have any other pictures of that car?

Cheers

How many would you like? ;-) I don't want to choke up CC too much.

Sandblasting will murder the finish on aluminum as evidenced above. Bead blasting will leave them brighter. When I bought my wheels it was $100 a wheel to have them polished.

I know I'm the oddball here but I like the look of the sand blasted wheels. They have a more vintage look that I like. Just my opinion though.

Larry,

When sand blasting your wheels use power instead of throwing the sand. LOL.

So blowing the sand though a drinking straw isn't the way to do it either?
Wondering why my teeth felt so gritty!!!!!
