Kenny: Have you considered it may not be the "cap" that is the question. I have a "inline filler neck" on mine, located just past the thermostat outlet. My radiator is several inches lower than the motor, with no filler neck.

I have a "recovery tank", located on the passenger wheel well. I originally had a 16 pound cap & it seemed to push coolant out more than it should: it would pull it back in, but not as good as I thought it should. I switched to a 18 pound cap and it is better.

The line to your "recovery tank" is below the radiator cap. The heating & cooling of the engine has more effect on the amount of how much fluid flows in & out, than the cap, actually.

Are you concerned a "new cap" won't let the engine "recover" coolant? Most caps I have bought are less than $10, so it's not much of an "investment" to put your fears to rest: get a chrome cap and drive on!

What 52chevyred said is all true and good. And the more pressure that you run the cooler your engine will run. But don't go to far unless you have had your radiator pressure checked for the higher pressures as most stock radiators will start bursting seams at around the 18/20 pound level. I think NASCAR used to run theirs at around 25 pounds but they made them lower it. That is why you will see so much water coming out the overflow hose they use instead of a recovery tank. Al, the cap does is determine at what pressure your radiator will start to push water out.
