Kenny: Have you considered it may not be the "cap" that is the question. I have a "inline filler neck" on mine, located just past the thermostat outlet. My radiator is several inches lower than the motor, with no filler neck.
I have a "recovery tank", located on the passenger wheel well. I originally had a 16 pound cap & it seemed to push coolant out more than it should: it would pull it back in, but not as good as I thought it should. I switched to a 18 pound cap and it is better.
The line to your "recovery tank" is below the radiator cap. The heating & cooling of the engine has more effect on the amount of how much fluid flows in & out, than the cap, actually.
Are you concerned a "new cap" won't let the engine "recover" coolant? Most caps I have bought are less than $10, so it's not much of an "investment" to put your fears to rest: get a chrome cap and drive on!
