Anyone used or seen these?

Got a reference for this from a friend. Does anyone have any experience with this particular unit?

Racecar Pit Lift Jacking System - QuickJack

patrickt 01-18-2014 05:14 PM

Very cool. It's a little irritating that they don't put a price on their web site. But, after watching the video of it, I don't know how comfortable I would be under the car with nothing but it holding the car up. I've had cars drop off jacks before -- they seem to drop incredibly fast and then land very, very hard.%/

DonC 01-18-2014 05:40 PM

From what I've been able to determine the pricing is in the $950 range which doesn't sound too terribly bad. There is a pivot down safety leg that's engaged once the lift is up to prevent it collapsing if there's a problem.
Here's a reference to another post on another forum that addresses the product.

45 lbs. of metal holding 3500 lbs. in the air? that better be some good stuff. looks like hydraulic on electric. i would want the joints to be greasable or sealed bearing type stuff. i'd guess the price is at least $1k, and i'm usually off by half, so your into it for that much, another grand or two and you could have a nice four post lift.

FWB 01-18-2014 06:19 PM

as much as i abhor agreeing with Patrick, i would also be very hesitant to get under the car with those, changing a tire or brakes...yes ..but sliding under...not on a bet.
for that kind of money you could almost pay for a real lift.
although i am a whimp and i am aware of my mortality, if i was 20 years old i may have no reservations sliding under my ricer with those

GregAgrest 01-18-2014 07:18 PM

I'd be a bit uneasy going under it too. I noticed it says it has no cross members. I'm thinking it can't really be all that stable from side to side. Sort of scary for me.

Xack 01-18-2014 08:31 PM

If someone pushed on the car from the side, it would roll off smashing what ever was under and to the opposite side of the car. Damage to your car would be determined by what ever it slammed into on the way down. Hopefully, no people. IMO, it would need a cross brace between the two units and better support than the leaver on each side, maybe 2, or 3 instead of the single leaver. Yes, I agree, by the time you spend and modify it to be safe, you would be better off spending money to get a real lift. It's purpose should be only for the race track where your just changing tires.

Yes, I'm with you and Patrick. I would want to see a demo in person and be allowed to push it hard from side-to-side and front-to-back. No lateral bracing other than what's contained in each unit, relatively small support components and a couple of small "feet" only about 12" wide. It's cool, but I would be uncomfortable. $950 would be spent before you made it to the hospital, if you were fortunate enough to go there first.

What is 'it' that you ultimately would want to do with it and can afford?

Forget the 'advertisement'..........and 'wanting' in winter months.

Ask yourself your actual use........and budget.

I have a 4 post lift and LOVE it.

Unless you really need something you need portable, go with the 4-post as Bleown871 said, or get a Kwik-Lift. Due to ceiling height restrictions, I went with Kwik-Lift and it's all safe and good. I keep the car up in the air all the time when not driving it and nice when I think of something and want to root it out before I can sleep.;)

Sorry - don't know how to delete duplicate post

I think the posters here are being overly critical re the security of these, as I doubt that they are any more prone to collapse from sideways pressure than ordinary jack stands and most of us petrol heads have survived many hours under cars on jack stands doing some very heavy spannering.

That said I would certainly add jack stands at the corners of the car to the mixture if I were to use them and crawl under the car.

Also - they are portable and ideal for confined workspace where four poster lifts are obviously not, so I rather like them and would certainly buy them but think they are too expensive. Might think of making a pair with a manual hydraulic pump some time though.

vector1 01-19-2014 03:52 AM

disregard.

RICK LAKE 01-19-2014 04:54 AM

It's for jackup cars

Guys you see no one under the car. It's just to keep it off the ground or raise it to put jack stands under. If you don't have electric or a generator in the trailer, it's not going to work. Both sides are hooked into 1 line from the controller, so pressure will be even to lift at the same rate. Change tires on this setup quick, see no problem. Any major work like trans or clutch replacement, I want jack stands. If money is no problem, goto the air lift like F1 cars. Other thing, they are picking up a stripped out honda not a BB cobra. Like anything, looks great for certain applications. Rick l.

Actually after seeing the video the way the jacks were built and how they lock I would have no reservations at all rolling under my Cobra. But like some of you have stated before I spent even $1K on this system would seriously consider at least a 4 poster.
Honestly the jacks would be a pain especially on a Cobra considering how close the frame rails are together working under the car would be very limited.

Ron61 01-19-2014 05:39 AM

They look like a good idea but unless they had them slowed down for the video they seem awfully slow to use at a race track. If I had a high enough ceiling in my garage I would have had a 4 post lift but I went with Kwick Lift and it has worked great for many years. I can widen it or narrow it for whatever car I am working on and mine is only rated for up to 4 tons, but the newer ones go way up there.

It looks a little light duty to me. When we ran dirt late models we used this:

http://www.outlawraceparts.com/image...s/all11270.jpg

Intended to be a trailer accessory, not a garage lift. Weighs 65# in aluminum. Every team in the Lucas Oil and World of Outlaw series uses a similar lift in the pits.

Bernica 01-19-2014 03:05 PM

And there's that lateral support I was talking about! Unfortunately, not so easy to roll around under your Cobra with it. Change tires? OK.

Buzz 01-19-2014 03:21 PM

Like one poster mentioned, jackstands don't provide any more lateral support/stability. If anything a bit less because their bases are even narrower, so I really don't see the reasoning behind all the concern.

Dumpling 01-19-2014 03:58 PM

two questions:

1) it's 61.5" long...is that going to be too long to fit between the wheels (with tires attached to begin with) of a Cobra, without crushing or doing damage to something underneath?

2) it has a big "PATENT PENDING" graphic on the website...what exactly can they patent? Especially given the example posted above.
