Default Engine Builder

I receive my FFR MK4 in about a month and I'm looking at two engine builders - Gordon Levy and Keith Craft. What comments can you share about either. Looking at a 347 EFI with TKO600 tranny for street use only.

You might also consider Mike Forte - just to give you one more option to angst over

I've recently purchased a Keith Craft alum 427 SO (stroked to 482 c.i.), Robert Pond block. It has about 3k on it, no problems it is an aboslute torque monster. Has not burned one drop of oil, great engine. I toured his shop in May, it was modern and spotless, maned by qualified personnel. Time was spent discussing what I wanted out of the engine and what it was to be used for. I had a Roush 427SR with the twisted wedge cam, at 8k had to put new valves in it due to valve stem wear, dumped it for the KC engine. Move vote is for the KC engine.

Either of those two can put together the engine you are after in their sleep.

If it were me between those two - I'd go for the one closer to home or responds to your questions "best". By that I mean, who going to give you the better after sales service?

There are some KC engines around here and I have never heard of any of them having any problem. But as suggested above there are some great engine builders out there and I would most likely go with the one closest to me in case something did go wrong.

I have had one of Keith's motors in my car since 2005. it hasn't been out of the car since. 20000+ miles. Its a nasty little monster capable of much more than my driving abilities can handle. No real problems, most I created myself. Doesn't leak a drop of oil. If something (knock on wood) went sour I would go back to Keith, absolutely.

I have had a KC 482 motor since 2008. I am very satisfied with the motor, and their customer service is outstanding. I would recommend KC, but have also been impressed with the participation on this site by Bret Lykins and Mike Forte, both of whom have been very helpful to other members, regardless of whether they are customers or not. Another possibility is George Gessford of Nebraska. Good luck with your project!
