NOT happy with Hagerty Insurance
So I jump through all the hoops, all the paperwork, pictures, signatures of excluded drivers, etc... Hagerty issues my policy and then 3 days later cancels because I said I would drive to work maybe once per week if the Weather was nice (with the car securely parked outside my office window). Mind you I said this upfront so why the heck didn't they have a problem with it then.
Now I have to go through the whole process again with Midwest Classic. Hope it goes smoother. |
I doubt you will have much sucess with Midwest either. If you want to insure the car like a classic car they generally forbid driving it to work or running any kind of daily errands in it. I have Midwest insurance on 3 cars including my Cobra and I'm happy with them. I recently asked if they could cover my 2003 Ford Lightning (14K original miles - gets driven about 700 miles a year at most). They initially said yes, but I kept pressing for their acknowledgement that I use the truck several times a year to pull a small trailer to Home Depot or the Nursery to get mulch, topsoil, plants, lumber, etc. Finally they said - well, if you intend to use it like a truck as you describe, it would probably be best if we don't cover it. So, I've kept it on my daily driver insurance policy.

I had Hagerty start the process with me and then come back and say they would not insure a Cobra. I went with Midwest. The application was quick and easy with Midwest. They were great to work with. I even have a rider that allows me to drive to work occasionally on the policy. My kids are not happy about the excluded driver part of the Cobra policy. However, I was not going to let them drive my Cobra anyway. Midwest was also cheaper than Hagerty.

I went with Midwest and for a little extra money they increased my yearly mileage allowance and allowed me to drive it to work 2 times per week. I am satisfied so far with Midwest.

You will drive it to a PRISON!?!?!:3DSMILE: |
What's the big deal about driving to work. None of us would do it daily ( weather would see to that) and we would park it somewhere safe and secure. Sucker can just as easily be stolen at a restaurant on a fun drive.

I'm not an insurance expert, but even for insuring "normal" cars, insurance companies ask if the vehicle is driven to work. Obviously, this is a major risk category for them. There are folks on this forum that work in the insurance industry that can provide a much better answer, but my point is that it is a typical breakdown.

If Midwest has an extra cost rider available to drive the car to work occassionally, then they are probably what you are looking for. I've only been with them a couple of years but so far, so good.

I have my cobra insured with Heacock classic and have had no problems:):)

Midwest! Good service. & fair cost.

Rick,
Well, I might not drive it to work that often %/....Sometimes you need a little Cobra therapy after a hard day at work  to decompress on the way home :D Jim |
I have Midwest as well with the allowance for driving to work. It's a little increase, but knowing my car is sitting next to the building waiting for me after work always makes the end of the day very relaxing. The guys I work with keep a space open right under the camera in the lot so I can park there. Our security guys have even sent me screen shots of people looking at my car when I was in the building (License plate information as well).
You won't go wrong with Midwest. Hagerty insures my fathers T-Bucket and wouldn't even look at mine. Said my car had the ability to get out of control too quickly. Seems a 1,200 lb tbucket with 400 hp is so much more controllable than my car. Had to laugh at that one. Scott |
I'm with American Modern thru. A.A.A's……. So far no problems.

My Midwest insurance is actually underwritten by American Modern. I think this can vary from State to State.
I had used American Collectors Insurance for years on a couple old cars. They wanted $800 +/- per year additional when I tried to add my Cobra to my policy. After recovering my wits and blurting out "are you crazy" I asked why would it be more than double the costs of my 66-427 Corvette for less covered value. She mumbled something about replacement and repair parts are harder to find for kit cars. I said thank you - I'll take my business elsewhere, and did. Funny - I can pick up the phone and call ERA M-F and get anything I need for my car. I can do the same for some of my 66 Corvette but not for everything. |
I have had my Cobra and Daytona Coupe insured through State Farm for 14 years. No problems ever. Premium is about $200 every 6 mos.

Thanks for all the input. Robbin at Midwest hooked me up with American Modern and I am now covered. Plus it was cheaper than Hagerty!
